@linux Sharing a 'small' inconvenience I had to fix with #opensuse#slowroll (I suspect #tumbleweed is the same) - I couldn't launch snaps (spotify, bitwarden) after update - error was: cannot determine seccomp compiler version in generateSystemKey fork/exec /usr/lib/snapd/snap-seccomp: no such file or directory
The fix (I first tried re-installing, didn't work) was to:
a. locate snap-seccomp - was in /usr/libexec/snapd
b. symlink: ln -s /usr/libexec/snapd /usr/lib/snapd
@pastermil@linux the attack surface for something that isn't officially maintained by the developers, and that doesn't have more vetting (e.g. distribution packages) opens up room for malicious actors.
e.g. #arch / #aur recommends verifying scripts manually before installing, and malicious scripts have been found and removed.
There are actors like #jiatan out there. An unofficial #flatpak needs manual verification before install - that's why I just go with #snap if the flatpak isn't official

Part of the reason I have stuck with it is I think I had a balanced introduction, since I was exposed to both praise and criticism. We often discuss our favorite distros, but I think it’s equally important to talk about the ones that didn’t quite hit...
I assume that Manj follows #Arch and doesn't improvise on sys dependencies. Definitely not poor.
Arch-archives by date, means you can build a system exactly as it was fully upgraded on a specific date, and the system works just like it used to.
Other systems that may carry 3 versions of the same library because different sw use different versions are the ones with the problem. Except for redundancy and space the system is not very coherent..
I really enjoy archlinux so I was thinking on downloading garuda gaming but I’m unsure if that’s the way to go. What distro do you guys use? Have you encontered many problems with it?

Even if you don't make an account on lemi.world or another such instance, you can subscribe to the sub, by putting that handle in your search bar, or clicking it here if you're on mastodon, since lemi is a fediverse platform. I dk if the r/linuxgaming community will be going away soon, but given what's happening with reddit, maybe it won't shut down when the protests are over, if they ever will be, which I hope is not likely.
