I have trouble maintaining direct , but I have no problem with photographs of people looking directly at the camera or drawings of people looking at the viewer.

Do people really have this level of problem with it? Do you?

"You can’t be autistic - you can make eye contact!”

Being autistic doesn’t mean I can’t make eye contact, rather that eye contact can be painful and overstimulating for me. Yet, I make it because I have to. If I didn’t, many would be hurt/angry, and I’d face further ostracism. Thanks for your pointless comment anyway from someone that clearly doesn't know what you're talking about.

Staring at eyes is too intense and trying to simulate natural intervals of looking away requires too much concentration. I miss most of what the person is saying. I don't do any more.

I don't think of myself as someone who has trouble with eye contact but all these CWs about eye contact have me going oh no eye contact brace for it and i am glad that the CWs exist for people who need them but I wonder if this is a case for tagging things (eg ) instead of CWing or if it's just me
