How do I use this account on lemmy and vice-versa?
Is the upvote of lemmy the same as favorite of mastodon? (they do not sync) if not then what metric are these two uniquely gauged?
@technology

bamboo ,

Neat, I don’t see your comment though in Mastodon. I assume only first and second level threaded comments are sync’d? I’m not too familiar with Mastodon, so maybe this is expected?

If you follow the OP link you should see our comment chain now. Federation isn’t realtime. :)

We’ve just published an update about this Mastodon trial which has been running for the last 6 months – you can read it here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/blog/2024-02-extending-our-mastodon-social-media-trial

We are going to continue our trial here for at least another six months while we share our findings internally and seek more engagement from other BBC teams. We are also planning to start researching ways to publish more BBC content using ActivityPub.

I just finished my hour-long interview with Oxford University concerning their study of Mastodon and decentralized social media.

They were especially interested in what we’ve done here at Veganism Social, as we have our own fork with custom features that address common complaints such as content discoverability.

Veganism Social’s use case was exemplary of the benefits of decentralizion. Our moderation is uniquely anti-speciesist, and the community has a clear purpose beyond ‘general’.

My analyses of the technological and sociological benefits of decentralization are extensive. I (currently) have a deep understanding of Mastodon’s code-base, and how to use it. I also worked as a software developer for centralized social media, and now moderate a subreddit with 100k members.

I could not possibly exhaust myself of exhilarating insights to share.

Surely, the Oxford study will broaden awareness of how decentralized social media will benefit society.

Next time my wife asks me to stop info-dumping, I’ll banter that Oxford might think it’s worth listening to. 🤭

They’re sending me an Amazon gift card as compensation, and of course I’m spending it all on candy.

Where can we find a list of difference between the features in veganism social?

Pretty wild to read this Mastodon post in a Lemmy community

DannyBoy , to youshouldknow

YSK: When making posts on Lemmy/Kbin always put at the end some hashtags related to your post topic.

So users from Mastodon and Pixelfed can interact with your post without even need to use their Lemmy/Kbin account or learn about "how to use the ActivityPub".
This also helps to have more content avaliable across the Fediverse due to better discoverability.

@youshouldknow

jlou ,

The trick is to edit out the mention of the lemmy community before you add the hashtags then lemmy doesn't see the updated version of the post with the hash tags, but people on mastodon see the hash tags

@sabret00the Yup. is not enough for video distribution. PeerTube is interesting indeed but the storage/bandwidth issue represents a challenge in terms of business model. You need to have a HUGE infrastructure to deal with volumes of video distribution. And that's costly. Not sure it's a business model that can work only through donation/subscription.

Ragnell ,
@Ragnell@kbin.social avatar

@TNLNYC We might be at a tumblr one soon. They want to "update the core experience" to make things "easier for new users" and are talking algorithm rather than linking posts or rolling out the ActivityPub integration they've been silent on.

What Lemmy .. Group do you follow ( still not sure how do you call them)

For now I just have :

I'm sure there are more interesting ones that I'm not aware of :)

And the best part you dont even have to have an account there thanks to and the

sneakyninjapants ,

Lots already. Of course depends on what your interest are. For ex. my subs

Edit: Fixed links for desktop, no idea if it works the same for mobile apps

Write it like [/c/[email protected]](/c/[email protected]) and it will link correctly. If it’s giving you a 404 error just wait a minute and try again, the server needs to download the sub first

phloatingman ,

If you format your links like this…

/c/[email protected]

the links will be clickable and the user can subscribe to them from their home instance.

The Big Social score so far:

  • Twitter: burning
  • Reddit: detonated a bomb under itself
  • Meta: rumored to join with a new app
  • YouTube: videos were always 2nd to "native" ones on the other networks, but they could trivially open an firehose (and maintain their preroll ads while doing so)
  • rest of Google: never found organic success and don't have a bet in the game apart from wanting to index everything

No predictions here, just stating the obvious. @fediverse

I don’t want meta in my fediverse :/

They will grab all non tech users and put them in their walled garden.

Embrace, Extend, Extinguish. No, we don’t want that, and we definitely don’t want them slurping Fediverse data!
