I first joined Lemmy back during the big Reddit exodus of last year. I like many others wanted an alternative to Reddit, and I thought that this might’ve been the one. I made two accounts, one on lemmy.world and another on sh.itjust.works, in the June of last year that I used on and off for about 4 months....
Anyone have suggestions for a 10 year old who likes comic mischief? He’s a huge fan of diary of a wimpy kid series but his reading level has moved beyond that. He’s also really enjoyed the wild robot series, Matilda, and the skunk and fox books....
It seems like any platform that features link aggregation is soon overrun by bots and self-promoters trying to drive traffic, and pages and pages of link posts versus pages and pages of people talking....
The thing is that people tend to post links as you can’t really force people to post if they don’t want to (or if they critical mass isn’t there). I’m guilty of that in the !parenting for instance, as I don’t have kids yet, I can only but post articles.
There’s very little in the way of active hobby/lifestyle boards so unless you’re in either a nerd (non-derogatory) or a communist (derogatory), Lemmy’s not got much going on for you

Instances or networks that focus on forums and conversations instead of link aggregation?

What are some general subs to take part in?
I see people always saying that we need more content and I would like to contribute. What are some subs you’d like to see more active?
There is a drop in monthly active Lemmy users (from 65k to 57k) (lemmy.fediverse.observer)
It is probably due to a number of people stopping using their alts after some instance hopping....
Why is most content on Lemmy just old memes?
I really like Lemmy so far, but sometimes my feed is just invaded by old facebook memes.
