Lemmy.world has somehow decided to become to extreme defenders of “copyright” and decided they will now delete posts that contain archive links in an absurd move that not even corporate websites like Reddit do. Archive links provide a service to provide access to an article long after it is deleted or changed....
The link you posted is a post by a mod announcing that they will enforce the policy given to them by the LW admins.
From the modlog I can tell that (presumably) you posted a text post to !politics about the policy that was then removed.
If you’re posting to !politics, such posts would obviously be removed because that’s A. not on topic (that’d be a topic for !lemmyworld. ) and B. not a link to an article. The latter is also the reason given for the removal.
Stirring up drama over absolutely nothing usually ends up hurting someone. Could you not?
My question is as follows: When I click a link on the main page, instead of opening a new tab in Firefox, it always takes me to the linked page in the same tab. I’ve tried changing settings in about:config, tried two different Firefox extensions to modify link behavior, but that resulted in a few unwanted events. I know I can...
This is in regard to Lemmy.world blocking piracy communities from other instances. This post is not about whether you agree with the decision. It’s about how the admins informed their users....
Sure, for a server as large and accessible as LW, Discord is a super useful, accessible platform. However, the Discord server should not be the only place that such an update is posted.
Realistically, you can’t expect much of the LW userbase to see and engage with an announcement in a Discord server, compared to a post on [email protected].
For hours today, yesterday, and intermittently since I’ve been on here (a month or so) lemmy stops loading using jerboa, liftoff, and a web browser....
I am sure that it has nothing to do with you having any financial gains hosting instances. And that you do it all for the good of federation: lemmy.world/comment/1510374
Yes you would do things differently if you were in our position.
He has the trust of every one involved. We are very thankful for the community supporting us as they do and it’s not because income is more than expenses now that it will stay like that. We expect donations to drop off at one point. But whatever happens we will always be open about this. Even you linked to information that is freely available.
I don't think many people understand that if they use Lemmy or kbin, they are posting to the fediverse. There are other platforms and will be more to come. Referring to a post on "Lemmy" or "kbin" is like saying you saw a post on your Windows or Mac computer....
Maybe it might be a good idea for people to reach out to the admins of lemmy.world and other instances about this issue. The sooner we know the better. Might be worth making a post on the main Communities of instances such as !lemmyworld and !main as well as a few others about these issues.
It’s confusing for new users, and this instance in particular has 7k users but no interactions. It’s a bot army, with the top user being called @admin....
FYI, I’m not going to remove this post or anything (and I agree as well), but it’s not likely to be seen by the right people here. /c/Sysadmin is just our community for discussing sysadmin things and I don’t know how much /u/Ruud or any Lemmy devs hang out here.
0.19.3 is now the most installed version (fedidb.org)
Good to see that most of the instances have caught up...

I strongly encourage instance admins to defederate from Facebook/Threads/Meta....
