"And then this lady left a gun in my room and very pointedly told me I'm right where I need to be."
It was an odd shot too, like the camera focused on her putting the gun down. It felt like it was meant to, or is meant to in the future, come back, but maybe it's just a dangling thread.
Wrathful Advance’s teleport does not work reliably for going through lasers. Jupiter vaults fine, but Corpus ship lasers nope. This is just silly as he’s already not a great choice for spy missions....
Over the time new youtube videos crop up talking about reddit, twitch and twitter issues. And in those comment sections I always like to spread the word of alternatives (like the fediverse). But whenever I do, those comments get quietly removed even though they seem to be posted in the first place....
That is fair, just odd to banish all mention of FOSS or federated services. If it is what they are doing, they don’t want people getting that kind of mindset I suppose.
I don’t want to dox myself, but I’ve been at my job for 5+ years. I guess either my boss or I fat fingered something while I was on boarding, cuz just now I was going over some paperwork and… As far as my job is concerned I’m Native American. I am very much white. Nobody ever brought it up....
Nah my job is terrible I’m barely getting the due benefits lol. Thank you though. I figured I’d have to do something malicious for it to matter, but I’ve never even thought about this stuff.
I continuously grapple with this intricate web of thought that intertwines infinity, atomic structure, and consciousness. It’s predicated on the assumption that if time truly is infinite, then there isn’t just a probability, but an inevitability, that all the matter in the universe will align exactly as they are now....
Not necessarily, because infinity might not mean what you think it means. Infinity doesn’t mean every possible outcome occurring, because there are different infinites.
For example, you can count an infinity using 1, 2, 3, 4, 5… But you can also count an infinity using 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. The latter infinity will only include half the numbers of the former, missing all odd numbers. It’s essentially an infinity 50% smaller than the other infinity - yet both are infinities. Maybe in this example, your consciousness is an odd number?
Another way to look at it is that there’s an infinity in between the numbers 0 and 1 using endless decimal places, and none of those numbers will ever be 2. In this example, maybe your consciousness is the number 7.
Yeah, when I was looking for a post-redit home I checked out beehaw.
Strike 1: no downvotes
Strike 2: application period to create an account
Strike 3: I read the beehaw mod's "philosophy" posts and I got the general idea of what they were saying, but they just sounded a little... odd. Like they were thinking things through and were going around in circles without really getting anywhere. By contrast, the tildes.net philosophy posts seemed well-thought-out and very readable.
I’m going to agree with everyone else, and say check Bluetooth connection and yeah maybe even carbon monoxide BUT you say the house and their place are connected by a breezeway. It’s entirely possible that they can just hear you talking. Sound travels in really odd ways sometimes, and people talk louder than they think. Is there another room, on the opposite end of the house, that you can make calls from, to see if it helps?
Instead of categorized instances (where communities are related to each other’s interests) (but I have seen people who don’t like the idea stil it’s ok), I have another idea of an “Admin’s Choice/regional/neighborhood” feed aside from my “subscribed”, “local” and “all”....

Lemmy.world grew from around 51000 total users the moment 3rd party reddit apps started to shut down on June 30 to 71000 total users at the time of this post (July 1). That’s a 40% growth in about 12 hours!...
Hi, my name is power2bill. Feels odd to not have RIF on my phone. I’m going to lurk for awhile and make a comment every 2-3 months. Hopefully, new communities pop up that I used to go on from reddit. I’ll be here enjoying usefully, and sometimes not useful information. Cheers everyone! 🍻
That’s odd… You’re clearly logged in or you wouldn’t be able to post. I guess it’s possible connect is losing your subscriptions? Is the app showing your account subscribed to a bunch of communities inside connect?
Why YSK: Beehaw defederated from Lemmy.World and Sh.itjust.works effectively shadowbanning anyone from those instances. You will not be able to interact with their users or posts.
Disclaimer: pretty new to Lemmy a federation (older than this account though).
From what I gather, defederation is supposed to be a function of this whole system, but intended to cut off whole instances that refuse to moderate or are active cesspools. In saying that, I don’t understand Beehaw cutting off two of the other biggest instances. I know they have a weird mentality over there of no downvotes and saw some odd conversations condemning someone’s political views while admitting to not know the person at all (dafuq?).
It seems to me it would make more sense to block a single community rather than the whole instance.
Maybe they want a walled garden, but as new people come in and want as much content as possible to show that this is a better venue than Reddit, to me they give off the wrong message.
Am I mistaken somehow? Anyone able to enlighten me?
Yea, i'm working on my own Fedi software and i'm struggling with the point of boosting in the link aggregator context. It's an odd overlap with Reddit-style reposting to appropriate subs, but based on the user.
It makes sense in the Twitter UX, but i struggle to find it's place in the Reddit UX.
Think about things from the point of view of someone who has never used Reddit or the fediverse, but you've heard about them both from recent news articles and want to see what they are about....
3 of the top 4 results for me are fediverse related when searching for "lemmy".
I don't think its the signing up, its the lack of centralization/community. reddit was a singularity, the community is protesting en-masse because they felt they were all part of the same thing.
to me, the fediverse is a segmented.. oddly connected group of overlapping communities. it lacks cohesion.
I blame the criminal gang that took their money, provided the boat and sent them all out there. Odd the news never mentions that end of the boats journey. I guess that would require some journalism though instead of the “This person said this. That person said that” lazy copy that is standard nowadays
It is the first game developed internally by Annapurna Interactive, although little else is known except that Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth takes place betw...
This may be their first internal development but they are a fantastic game publisher already! They take a lot of chances publishing weirder stuff and it pays off a lot of the time. My favorites are:
Outer Wilds
Journey
Stray
What Remains of Edith Finch
Donut County
Gone Home
Kentucky Route Zero
I kind of look at them as the A24 of games (nevermind that Annapurna Pictures is a thing) where they have excellent taste in choosing what odd features to publish and give a chance despite not creating them themselves. It at least suggests they care about the artistry of the product to a point where I'm expecting that same standard in their first hands-on development.
I already own the original, but back when I got it I was unable to play due to the poor control schemes since I am disabled. Now I own an Xbox Adaptive Controller that I used to play through Elden Ring pretty well. I'd love to go back and play some of the earlier games....
Definitely the Remaster. I would go for DS1 first. Yes gameplay will feel odd but you‘ll get used to it. It‘s a fantastic introduction to the series and you‘ll see how much Fromsoftware learned and improved since then. Fair warning: DS1 might feel easier for you. DS3 on the other hand is more similar to ER.
How odd, that one should be good not for the sake of goodness, but out of fear of damnation.
Jesus is an example of an ideal person. Being literally divine Jesus is capable of setting a perfect example of love, forgiveness, and compassion. We humans are not. We have flaws, but should still strive to be good people, just as Jesus was a good human.
If you are “being good” or “not being bad” for selfish reasons, you aren’t acting out of love or goodness. Heaven, hell, reward, punishment, these shouldn’t matter when it comes to virtue or vice.

How did Lemmy.world become more popular than Lemmy.ml?
I don’t understand how Lemmy.world developers managed to surpass both Lemmy.ml and Beehaw.org instances in user activity.
how does my "neighbor" hear my private telephone conversations.
