India stands 'firmly for peace' PM Modi tells Ukraine's Zelensky

“We were not neutral from day one, we have taken a side, and we stand firmly for peace,” Modi said.

Modi is paying the first visit to Ukraine by an Indian prime minister.

As he pushed for a way forward on ending the Ukraine war, Modi urged Zelensky to sit down for talks with Russia and offered to act as a “friend” to help bring peace.

“No problem can be resolved on a battlefield,” Modi said in Poland on Wednesday before heading to Ukraine.

What a dipshit.

UltraGiGaGigantic ,

This news isn’t for us, it’s for Modi’s shitter followers.

eestileib ,

He is totally happy to have ethnic cleansing by his BJP goons settle what religious buildings are allowed to stay up in India, though.

For this, and many other reasons, Modi can go fuck himself.

“मोदी जी ने वॉर रुकवा दी, पापा !” 🤡

Pretty sure he did…not.

don ,

If he hasn’t first beaten Putin on the head repeatedly with a heavy lead pipe while screaming at him to end the fucking invasion of Ukraine, I’m not going to listen to what modi has to say about “peace”.

that is definitely NOT taking a side lol.

“No problem can be resolved on a battlefield”

unless your opponent is not negotiating in good faith, or refuses to negotiate at all.

Under the current circumstances, the only moral position is to support peace. Once a peace - or at least a ceasefire - is achieved, Russia, Ukraine and the separatist regions may be able to negotiate a settlement and those who started the war might even be exposed and punished. But if the fighting continues, thousands of random people will die needlessly.

If a violent criminal breaks into your home would you invite them to negotiate at your dinner table?

At best that is a naive point of view, completely detached from context. you say “those who started the war might even be exposed” as if that wasn’t 100% clear from the beginning. Russia invaded ukraine, and Ukraine has a right to defend itself. Therefore, Russia must vacate Ukraine before there can be peace or there will never be peace. Remember the appeasement of the Nazis and Fascists before WWII? We’ve already been through this with Russia and Crimea. If you keep letting them annex and invade sovereign nations they will just keep doing it.

So if you are really on the side of “peace” you must be on the side of Ukraine, and failure to acknowledge that is just equivocation.

If a violent criminal tried to break into my house, I would definitely not try to fight them alone. I do not have a death wish.

Of course Russia should not occupy Ukraine (and neither should Ukraine act as an occupying army towards its own Russian minority). But questions of what is right and what is wrong will not be decided on the battlefield. The only thing that will be proven on the battlefield is which side has a bigger army, and we already know the answer to that question.

and what do you propose to do if Russia refuses to cease fire? What would you do if the violent criminal proceeds to murder your family in front of your eyes while you stand by doing nothing? absolute pacifism is a self-defeating ideal.
