if we’re lucky, there’s be a paragraph about it between to the paragraph about the trail of tears and the other paragraph about martin luther king jr in american history books.
i was wondering what you said since i can only see that it was removed.
i’ve used milderer sarcasm than you have and my own comments have likewise been removed; i suspect that the fraught relationship that lemmy.world has with the rest of the lemmyverse is fueling overzealous moderation.
I won’t reveal who reports who, but I will say it was someone else.
The civility rule is NOT ambiguous:
“Rule 5: Keep it civil. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members.”
All good but this moderation approach is censoring non-problematic content because some people have poor reading comprehension and/or don't understand sarcasm.
I would expect them to get better instead of content getting diluted.
@eldavi did confirm that he did not report me, so this is literally some third party injecting themselves into a discussion. Either way, rules can be used by faith actors to stifle speech, that's how it works on reddit. I would posit context should be counted when issuing removals.
I highly recommend Lies My Teacher Told Me, American history textbooks are fucking garbage lol
For example, that the US Army hunted buffalo to near extinction specifically to starve the plains natives, it was a deliberate strategy of using starvation as a weapon. I was taught it was just “”“poaching”“” from settlers and that it was all an accident.
that and A People’s History of the United States informs most of what i know.
i also marvel from time to time at how the bullshit that i was taught when i was young can still completely overpower the things i learned in my young adulthood; and it somehow got worse once i reached middle age.
The Lancet estimated 186,000 dead which would be 8%, but noted that there's no real way to know. Since they were a little conservative with their guesswork and about 6 weeks have passed since then, I think 10% dead out of Gaza's population of 2 million is highly likely by now.
Yeah. I agree with queermunist about the inaccuracy of using the lower bound as if it was the estimate, which almost all of the media is currently doing. 😢
Regimes and armies exterminating people is essentially standard behavior throughout history. The fact that Jews were able to turn ww2 atrocities into specifically them issue at expense of other victims of fascism is how we ended enabling the state of Israel and their genocide in Palestine.
Note that Israeli genocide campaign predates ww2, they started this bullshit in early 20th century. Ww2 and Holocaust propaganda enabled them to expedite the process by generations.
Are you saying Israel is shipping people into Gaza to kill them?
Last I heard they were very happy to see people move out through the south, but Egypt was asking 5k per person… Bit different from the nazi’s stopping jews from escaping in WW2
The last I read is that, the burn their villages, occupied their homes, refuse they comeback, but a wall around them, pervent anything from coming in or going out… and now bombing them.
While those who didn’t go to Gaza are: getting force out of their home, displaced, kidnapped and put in prison, getting tortured and raped.
Palestinians aren’t treated as human under Apartheid. Israel literally jails children without trial or with a forced confession, and tortures them. Palestinians are jailed without charge, forced into false confessions, routinely tortured, raped, denied medical attention, and yes killed.
I’m not comparing the treatment to death camps, I’m comparing it to concentration camps.
The mass executions of prisoners by the Nazis ramped up in the last few years. Is your argument that we need to wait until the death rate is comparable in the Palestinian Occupied Territories? Because my argument is to stop it now
If you want to go for a direct comparison with Nazi Germany, then you’d want to look at the Jewish prisoners in the Warsaw Ghettos.
What is the point in trying to rank genocides? The only useful part of doing a comparison is to recognize how dehumanization occurs, and how to recognize a genocide early in order to prevent as many deaths as possible.
