The entirety of Hamas consists of about 10,000 people. So let that sink in for a bit.

As conservatives cheer.

sunzu2 ,

Bipartisan support within US for the genocide...

try again buttercup

reksas ,

How is this different from holocaust except being even more chaotic and cruel?

sunzu2 ,

There was nothing special about holocaust...

Regimes and armies exterminating people is essentially standard behavior throughout history. The fact that Jews were able to turn ww2 atrocities into specifically them issue at expense of other victims of fascism is how we ended enabling the state of Israel and their genocide in Palestine.

Note that Israeli genocide campaign predates ww2, they started this bullshit in early 20th century. Ww2 and Holocaust propaganda enabled them to expedite the process by generations.

nonailsleft ,

Well for one metric: the nazi’s killed 300 times as many civilians per day. Most of them systematically shipped off to extermination camps

geneva_convenience ,
@geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml avatar

Gaza is comparable to a large concentration camp not the entire Holocaust.

During the majority of the Holocaust it looked like Gaza. Only near its end were the exterminion camps in full force.

nonailsleft ,

Are you saying Israel is shipping people into Gaza to kill them?

Last I heard they were very happy to see people move out through the south, but Egypt was asking 5k per person… Bit different from the nazi’s stopping jews from escaping in WW2

Doorbook ,

The last I read is that, the burn their villages, occupied their homes, refuse they comeback, but a wall around them, pervent anything from coming in or going out… and now bombing them.

While those who didn’t go to Gaza are: getting force out of their home, displaced, kidnapped and put in prison, getting tortured and raped.

Yes you cannot compare the two…

geneva_convenience ,
@geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml avatar

Yes. Those Palestinians used to live over all of Palestine until they were ethnically cleansed.

Many who suffered the Nakba are now confined in the Gaza concentration camp.

nonailsleft ,

I think you should go do some research into what the real concentration camps were

Also, why do you think Egypt charges so little to let them out?

Keeponstalin ,

Palestinians aren’t treated as human under Apartheid. Israel literally jails children without trial or with a forced confession, and tortures them. Palestinians are jailed without charge, forced into false confessions, routinely tortured, raped, denied medical attention, and yes killed.

Palestinians denied civil rights (HRW) including Military Court (B’TSelem)

Palestinian Prisoners in Israel (wiki)

Children are jailed and abused in Israeli prisons (Save The Children)

Torture and Abuse in Interrogations (B’TSelem)

Thousands of Palestinians are held without charge under Israeli detention policy (NPR)

Urgently investigate inhumane treatment and enforced disappearance of Palestinians detainees from Gaza (Amnesty)

Israel/OPT: Horrifying cases of torture and degrading treatment of Palestinian detainees amid spike in arbitrary arrests (Amnesty)

nonailsleft ,

At the height of the holocaust, nazi’s and their collaborators killed 500.000 jews per month

How do you think the Egyptians decided on the price to let people out of Gaza?

Keeponstalin ,

I’m not comparing the treatment to death camps, I’m comparing it to concentration camps.

The mass executions of prisoners by the Nazis ramped up in the last few years. Is your argument that we need to wait until the death rate is comparable in the Palestinian Occupied Territories? Because my argument is to stop it now

If you want to go for a direct comparison with Nazi Germany, then you’d want to look at the Jewish prisoners in the Warsaw Ghettos.

What is the point in trying to rank genocides? The only useful part of doing a comparison is to recognize how dehumanization occurs, and how to recognize a genocide early in order to prevent as many deaths as possible.

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

The true death toll passed 40,000 a long time ago. These are just the bodies that have been recovered and identified.

pennomi ,

Right, we’re talking likely 2% or more of the entire population killed so far. That’s horrific

mozz ,
@mozz@mbin.grits.dev avatar

Try 10%

The Lancet estimated 186,000 dead which would be 8%, but noted that there's no real way to know. Since they were a little conservative with their guesswork and about 6 weeks have passed since then, I think 10% dead out of Gaza's population of 2 million is highly likely by now.

pennomi ,

Plausible, but estimated. Hard to know the actual count of course.

mozz ,
@mozz@mbin.grits.dev avatar

Yeah. I agree with queermunist about the inaccuracy of using the lower bound as if it was the estimate, which almost all of the media is currently doing. 😢

sunzu2 ,

Regime whores covering up the genocide...

We only confirmed 40k bodies 🤡

Only 2% 🤡🤡

All hamas🤡🤡🤡

FelixCress ,

Genocide. New holocaust.

eldavi ,

if we’re lucky, there’s be a paragraph about it between to the paragraph about the trail of tears and the other paragraph about martin luther king jr in american history books.

sunzu2 ,

But have you thought about rich Americans' right to defend themselves, shitlord?

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

Removed, civility.

sunzu2 , (edited )

Which part was not civil?

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

Calling another user “shitlord”.

sunzu2 ,

Did @eldavi report me?

Either way, it was sarcasm

the caustic use of words, often in a humorous way, to mock someone or something

eldavi ,

i was wondering what you said since i can only see that it was removed.

i’ve used milderer sarcasm than you have and my own comments have likewise been removed; i suspect that the fraught relationship that lemmy.world has with the rest of the lemmyverse is fueling overzealous moderation.

sunzu2 ,

Yeah I figured you would have picked up on it based on your comments

It was something along the lines: "but have you thought about the right of rich Americans to defend themselves, ****Lord"

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

I won’t reveal who reports who, but I will say it was someone else.

The civility rule is NOT ambiguous:

“Rule 5: Keep it civil. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members.”

sunzu2 , (edited )

All good but this moderation approach is censoring non-problematic content because some people have poor reading comprehension and/or don't understand sarcasm.

I would expect them to get better instead of content getting diluted.

@eldavi did confirm that he did not report me, so this is literally some third party injecting themselves into a discussion. Either way, rules can be used by faith actors to stifle speech, that's how it works on reddit. I would posit context should be counted when issuing removals.

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

It literally doesn’t matter who reported it, you broke the civility rule. Had I come across the comment organically I still would have removed it.

Don’t attack other users. Full stop.

sunzu2 ,

Don't attack other users. Full stop.

Nobody was attacked. Learn to read.

jordanlund , (edited )
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

Now you’re arguing with a mod after a civility violation. Temp banned.

On further review, this appears to be a ban evading account of sunzu. Perma banned.

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

I highly recommend Lies My Teacher Told Me, American history textbooks are fucking garbage lol

For example, that the US Army hunted buffalo to near extinction specifically to starve the plains natives, it was a deliberate strategy of using starvation as a weapon. I was taught it was just “”“poaching”“” from settlers and that it was all an accident.

eldavi ,

that and A People’s History of the United States informs most of what i know.

i also marvel from time to time at how the bullshit that i was taught when i was young can still completely overpower the things i learned in my young adulthood; and it somehow got worse once i reached middle age.
