apis , in Should you have to pay for online privacy?

We dumbly agree, out of convenience or some notion that if we wanted to read the paper edition we’d have to pay for it, but one can shell out cash for the paper, pick it up in a waiting room, read a friend’s copy, etc.

As soon as we attach a subscription to an online edition, all that happens is they get more data on us (as we are les inclined to delete their tracking cookies) whilst handing over solid confirmation that we are who they suspected we probably are.

If you must subscribe, use a dedicated browser & multiple measures to confound tracking.

rah , in UK's first drugs consumption room to open in October

Finally!

Mrkawfee , in Journalist Richard Medhurst arrested under Britain’s Terrorism Act

This is political persecution of journalists who are asking the wrong questions.

It is incredible how repressive the West is towards anyone who challenges Israel’s Holocaust in Gaza.

echodot ,

Yeah but he broke the law. He was arrested because he broke the law, not for some political reason.

Why would he be arrested for some political reason when he’s been left alone all this time? The war started 2 years ago so if they wanted to arrest him on trumped up charges they’ve had plenty of time to do so.

TheGrandNagus , in Paddington Bear giant sculpture spotted in Cheshire

Send him back to Rwanda Peru I say

j4yt33 , in Kemi Badenoch Accepts £10,000 From Chair of Tufton Street Climate Denial Group

I’m shocked! Shocked!

CommunistCuddlefish , in Giant spiders the size of rats making a comeback in UK

Yay spiders!

flamingos , in Golden age of English universities could be over, says head of watchdog
Treczoks , in Liz Truss leaves stage in Beccles as 'lettuce' banner unfurls

When you are an asshole and an idiot at the same time and get treated like one - don’t be that surprised, Liz. The Lettuce was your boss level monster, and you lost. And now it made you run away from reality again.

All I can say is Go, Lettuce Go!

geophysicist , in UK economy continues recovery with 0.6% growth

Wow, with this impressive growth we will be recovered by only 2300!

Streamwave , in Civil servants cannot wear ‘fetish gear’ to work, minister confirms

I cannot believe this even needed to be clarified in the first place

FundMECFSResearch , in Bluesky: Social media site reports surge in new UK users after Elon Musk's riot comments

Bluesky is amazing. I switched there from mastodon as the experience just feels better with a cool vibe. And it’s FOSS decentralised just like mastodon.

arudesalad , (edited )

I use it as well. People hating it completely is weird. I get that for profit is stinky but most people don’t complain about that, they complain about it using a different protocol. As long as it is foss, (which it is) using a different protocol is fine, especially because their whole point of developing their own protocol is to achieve feature parity with Twitter

Edit: before anyone mentions, you can host your own bluesky instance now

FarceOfWill ,

Do you have a link to a non blue sky blue sky instance for people to jon?

arudesalad ,

I couldn’t find one in my 10 second search. I think most are made for personal use.

sunzu , in Schools to teach children how to spot fake news and ‘putrid’ conspiracies online

The state has zero incentive in teaching kids how to spot propaganda because the state would expose itself lol

Once peasants start using critical thinking they eventually figure out that "muhhh team right" does not serve them much.

Laser , in Cannabis: Drug production booming in UK's empty high streets

Reading the headline I thought of meth labs. But it’s about growing cannabis. Talk about priorities
