This is great news :) but without wanting to be spammy the org I am a member of !globalorderofsatan have been running a very similar campaign but for non-mainstream music e.g. metal/punk/indie/alt/industrial/goth that we call “Satan Not Hatin’”

It currently has over 140 opt-in participants of bands, individual artists, venues, festivals, record labels and other orgs from all over the world, including the UK and has been so successful that a well known (within metal circles) documentarian and music video director is currently making a Documentary about the campaign. You can visit the campaign website where we list all the participants and provide more detail - there’s also a link to a YouTube playlist of all the participating bands which also works fine in Invidious!

I have contacted the Graun about Satan Not Hatin’ but mainstream news has little love for alternative music so we’ll carry on with our DIY approach!

No, we would just laugh at them.

Rumbelows , in More bus services could come under control of councils under planned law

Yeah this is absolutely needed… I grew up in Devon and remember when the bus services were privatised and taken away from the council… For about six months the prices dropped as two different companies competed, then one company won the other company folded and suddenly it was a monopoly… Prices tripled overnight and then over the next few years the number of services declined to the point where it was impossible to live in the village that I did and commute to work by bus

HumanPenguin ,
@HumanPenguin@feddit.uk avatar

Yeah the change of law is a start.

But the councils will need money to invest in replacibg lost services.

Currently the political clkmate limits that.

IE the gov dose t have the courage to force the inveatment.

@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Its cool. Just go back to one the bazillion previous threads on nuclear waste disposal. There was a dude who said they’d gladly put all nuclear waste under their house since its so safe in modern times. Just contact that one, all good then.

Emperor , in Which rural area will take the UK’s nuclear waste?
@Emperor@feddit.uk avatar

I did some postgraduate courses with guys from Sellafield - the shenanigans they talked about didn’t fill me with confidence.

I went on a school trip there and it is very impressive, like a Bond villains lair, but they did always gloss over the waste issue and, until that’s solved, we should be wary of building any similar large reactors.

steeznson ,

Yeah my mate worked there for a few years after his chemical engineering degree. I hadn’t realised what a disaster it was until he spoke about it. Apparently the Russians phoned the site when Chernobyl happened because it was the worst nuclear disaster in Europe that had happened before.

Mate also told me there were many flora and fauna that lived in the area despite the high levels of gamma radiation. One of his colleagues had a bird shit in her hair on the way in to work one day and it wouldn’t wash out in the chemical shower so they had to shave her hair off.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_raft_spider

In October 2010 the first introduction of a great raft spider population into a new site in the UK was carried out in a joint project by Natural England and Suffolk Wildlife Trust and supported by a grant from the BBC Wildlife Fund. The project saw around 3000 spiderlings bred and reared by Dr. Helen Smith and the John Innes Centre, 1600 of which were released into suitable dykes at the Suffolk Wildlife Trust Castle Marshes nature reserve. The site is part of the Suffolk Broads and lies 50 kilometres (31 mi) downstream, from Redgrave and Lopham fen, between Lowestoft and Beccles. Work was carried out to improve the ditch network at the site to prepare for the reintroduction and provide optimal habitat for the new spider population.

Dr. Helen Smith knew that the one great problem with the UK was an insufficient number of giant spiders running around, and she intended to remedy that.

Each spiderling was hand reared in separate test tubes and fed with fruit flies.

“Eat. Eat and grow large and strong.”
