Mrkawfee , in Former U.S. President Trump suggested that the streets of the United Kingdom were replete with death and destruction — and a Kamala Harris presidency would give the U.S. the same fate

Did he mistake the UK for Gaza?

mannycalavera ,
@mannycalavera@feddit.uk avatar

Don’t say that. The US will start bombing us.

Point them in the general direction of Belgium.

MrNesser , in UK's first drugs consumption room to open in October

They’ve had one of these at Westminster for years just ask the people who clean the toilets

Wimopy , in How climate crisis made this UK summer feel like a letdown

So they just compared averages/peaks and said “it’s just your perception being used to too hot weather, it’s not unusually cold”.

Fair, but that feels very superficial. Was the temperature variation higher than usual? More/less rainfall or humidity?

This is not to say our perception isn’t warped by climate change, but climate change isn’t just higher temperatures. Normal weather patterns changing, more extremes, etc.

I don’t have the time or will to check on that, but I just feel making a 3 paragraph article on a complicated phenomenon as weather and climate is just a bit lacking.

TheGrandNagus , in UK's first drugs consumption room to open in October

Pffft. I’ve had a drug consumption room for ages.

rah , in UK's first drugs consumption room to open in October

Finally!

Lifebandit666 , in UK's first drugs consumption room to open in October

About fucking time a positive step was made.

ScreamingFirehawk , in UK's first drugs consumption room to open in October

Are the drugs provided?

rah ,

No. Unfortunately Tricky Dicky’s vote-winning “war on drugs” put paid to what used to be referred to as “the British system” where GPs could prescribe substances to those suffering with addiction in order to remove the pressure (on the addict as well as society as a whole) of acquiring the substance. Alas.

Streamwave , (edited ) in Journalist Richard Medhurst arrested under Britain’s Terrorism Act

Good, for months now he’s openly expressed his support and encouragement for a proscribed terrorist organisation, i.e. Hamas. He’s not ambiguous about this: he thinks October 7th was great and that Hamas should do it again. He literally travelled to Iran and posted photos next to IRGC rockets and missiles with the caption “Long live the resistance”.

He’s not a journalist. He’s a vicious antisemite who takes pleasure in attacking Jews and is a proud and unrepentant promoter and supporter of terrorism.

Throw away the key. I don’t know why he’s allowed into the country at all.

Wanderer , in Government should “urgently” legalise e-scooters says shared transport charity - says serious safety incidents are rare

But why won’t anyone think of the cars!

It will just be like cycle lanes and bus lanes. They take up all the space that could be used by cars! There isn’t enough space for cars! All these poor taxi drivers will be dead in the gutter and ambulances won’t be able to move if we legalise e scooters. Poor old ladies that can’t walk wont be able to use their car.

What this government needs to do is ban cycling, buses, taxis, pavements, wheelchairs, and invest in roads! We should turn all our railway lines to roads let’s face it no one uses trains. This country was built on cars!

Fucking idiots can’t do anything right.

Also ban speed cameras. I can’t get anywhere as fast as I used to and it’s dangerous to have to slam on my breaks every time I see a speed camera.

Mrkawfee , in Journalist Richard Medhurst arrested under Britain’s Terrorism Act

This is political persecution of journalists who are asking the wrong questions.

It is incredible how repressive the West is towards anyone who challenges Israel’s Holocaust in Gaza.

echodot ,

Yeah but he broke the law. He was arrested because he broke the law, not for some political reason.

Why would he be arrested for some political reason when he’s been left alone all this time? The war started 2 years ago so if they wanted to arrest him on trumped up charges they’ve had plenty of time to do so.

rah , in Journalist Richard Medhurst arrested under Britain’s Terrorism Act

A vocal critic of NATO’s war against Russia in Ukraine

Stopped reading there.

echodot ,

It was really clever how NATO convinced Russia to attack Ukraine, but then get their asses handed to them, so that NATO could come in with weapons to support Ukraine and so engage in this proxy war. That was some pretty sophisticated 3D chess that was.

TheGrandNagus , in Paddington Bear giant sculpture spotted in Cheshire

Send him back to Rwanda Peru I say

echodot , in Journalist Richard Medhurst arrested under Britain’s Terrorism Act

Independent journalist Richard Medhurst was arrested by British police under Section 12 of the Terrorism Act

Just for clarity he’s an independent journalist not a journalist for the independent newspaper.

He’s just some rag who posts a lot on his blog. He’s not exactly mainstream. Which is presumably why there isn’t a lot of news about this.

Streamwave ,

He also regularly writes for and appears on Al Mayadeen (Hezbollah affiliates), the Iranian Regime’s Press TV, and Russia Today.

And yes, you would be correct if you guessed his views on Syria’s Bashar al-Assad based on this information.

HootinNHollerin , (edited ) in UK tech tycoon Mike Lynch among missing after luxury yacht sinks

Isn’t the chairman of Morgan Stanley missing too?

Edit: yep

Morgan Stanley International bank chairman Jonathan Bloomer and Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo are among the six people missing after a luxury yacht sank in a storm off Sicily on Monday, Sicily’s Civil Protection told the BBC.

Is there a less clearly biased source for this? I struggle to take articles seriously when they use emotive language and hyperbole in seemingly every sentence.

This article also straight up accuses NATO of waging a proxy war against Russia and says they’re using Ukraine as their battleground.

It repeatedly calls Russia’s invasion “NATO’s war” ffs

Calling this person a journalist is also a bit of a joke. From what I can see, he mostly just peddles tankie content and conspiracies on his YouTube channel. If that’s what passes as being a journalist these days we’re in real trouble lol

Emperor ,
@Emperor@feddit.uk avatar

Is there a less clearly biased source for this?

The first page and a half of my Google news search brings up just a whole host of partisan sources, from The Times of Israel to the Tehran Times. I can genuinely find nothing from a UK paper or broadcaster. That’s a bit weird.

Akasazh ,
@Akasazh@feddit.nl avatar

MOre than a bit weird indeed.

Emperor ,

It’s possible more reliable sources are waiting for a police statement or the details of any charges, so their reports might take a day or so.
