Way to save one company money at the expense of another!

Tells users? Or tells ad buyers? Facebook and Instagram are free for users. There’s no fee. And ad buyers could always buy ads through a web portal — this is nothing new.

For Facebook, you’re the product. As buyers are their customers.

The line between user and advertiser is getting blurrier. They’re rolling out a feature where users can pay to “boost” their posts.

Meta’s boosts are a type of paid advertising that shows a Facebook or Instagram account’s posts to a wider audience. Meta frames boosts as a tool that many “small businesses” use, but it’s also being used by celebrities, brands, and individuals looking for more eyes on their content.

Paid boosts are a quick way to pay-to-play for engagement on Instagram and Facebook. They’re different from full ad campaigns, which can be purchased through Meta’s Ads Manager feature.

Good lord. What a waste of money! 😆

Rolling out? Maybe I’m missing something but you could pay to boost your posts on Facebook for many years now…

Ah, I guess I misread the article. So the only new part is the Apple tax?

I read a while back they started charging a monthly subscription for ad-free experience. That’s likely the case.

I haven’t used Facebook or Instagram since they promoted me to pay €9 pr account pr platform I think they offered me some discount so I could manage for €27 each month.

I am OK with them offering a paid version. But they also removed untargeted ads in the process. They used to allow showing ads thart weren’t targeted.

Also the adfree version still tracks you and will show targeted content even from commercial accounts. So the price is simply a scare tactic and not an actual choice
