Are they any self hosted dvr programs? I have a cable set-top box that I would like to record programs while I’m away. Yes I can pay to enable the dvr functionality from my cable provider but I’m cheap and would like my shows available to any computer in the house and not just the one hooked up to set-top device. Do I need...

Hello nerds! I’m hosting a lot of things on my home lab using docker compose. I have a private repo in GitHub for the config files. This is working fine for me, but every time I want to make a change I have to push the changes, then ssh to the lab, pull the changes, and run docker compose up. This is of course working fine,...

I’m duplicating my server hardware and moving the second set off site. I want to keep the data live since the whole system will be load balanced with my on site system. I’ve contemplated tools like syncthing to make a 1 to 1 copy of the data to NAS B but i know there has to be a better way. What have you used successfully?
I have been exploring the world of home servers/self-hosting for a little over a year now, and feel like I have at a decent understanding of a lot of things that go into this. The one thing I am not remotely comfortable with yet is networking. It’s like a foreign language to me....
In my home network, I’m currently hosting a public facing service and a number of private services (on their own subdomain resolved on my local DNS), all behind a reverse proxy acting as a “bouncer” that serves the public service on a subdomain on a port forward....

Hey folks, I’m at my wits end. I’ve been screwing with proxmox for years now, but I’m at a tipping point. I’ve just used consumer SSDs in it to run my VMs off of - but I just realized after a dozen or so crashes over the last week that I think the SSDs are the culprit. (Really, really terrible write speeds leading to...
I noticed that Linux server distros are using LVM as default. What is so good about LVM, and when should I use it? Is there a GUI for managing LVM volumes like GParted, or is it just through the terminal? How is it different from RAID in using multiple drives for one volume?

Hello, I want to self host an instance so I’m only beholden to myself and the military forces that watch all. I only have one rule, and don’t care much for moat things, but I’d like to create safe and friendly place for people like me
Something small and 2 or 4 GB RAM. Raspberry pi’s compute power is good enough for me, I’m not doing anything too intensive....
