To mitigate the effort to maintain my personal server, I am considering to only expose ssh port to the outside and use its socks proxy to reach other services. is Portknocking enough to reduce surface of attack to the minimum?
I currently have a Raspberry Pi (with DAC) in my room attached to an amp and speakers, with Moode Audio installed on it, and it’s perfect, been using it for many years. I can use plenty of MPD clients, or go through the web gui, and the sound outputs from the Pi itself....
Have HA running in a Docker container, wanted to set up the Sonoff Zigbee USB as a hub for smart devices in the house, can’t figure out why this is so hard....
but before I do, I figured I’d ask if anyone’s aware of any tools/software that covers my basic needs of setting something basic that may alert me if there are any intruders in the network?...
As much as I adore paperless-ngx for its UX, I hate it for its tech-stack. Idling it already uses 300 MB RAM, when changing a few metadata fields on a document it easily spikes to 700 oder 800 MB. That’s insane for the work it actually does. Is there anything more lightweight? All I need is metadata management and a gallery...
I have a Raspi 3b+ to play with, and thought about using it as a Google Drive alternative for collaborative docs since there are some cool stuff Google Docs can’t do, but LibreOffice do. Any similar experience?
Personally I’m running Foundry and have been meaning to spin up Owlbear 1.0 now that it’s self hostable - but I feel like there’s more i could be doing. Is anyone aware of a self hostable character sheet/character builder? I suppose i could go next cloud for storing folders and files but I don’t think anyone would use it...
Hey guys, Changed ISP to Aussie Broadband yesterday, and suddenly can’t seem to connect to my server using my domain (still can connect in the local network). Aussie Broadband uses CGNAT, and I opted out of that, but I still can’t seem to use the server… am I missing some router settings I might need to change? Any other...
I just installed a mesh WiFi network in addition to my ISP-provided router that could barely reach upstairs. I had some locally hosted services set up as per Mediabox. All containers were set up with my machine IP(?) 192.xxx.x.xx and were working great inside my network, which is all I wanted to do while I’m learning. I...
Hi all, since ya’ll are self hosters, I’m sure you all deal with all sorts of different pieces of hardware, accessories, peripherals, and what not; just wondering if you could please share your favorite, solid, “go to” brands for overall things you need for your setup such as cables (all types), adapters, dongles, power...
I’m in the process of designing a home server and am curious how many ethernet ports are required at minimum and how many people recommend. The single board computer (SBC) I plan to use has two built in and has a pcie slot to add four more if necessary. If I don’t need the four extra I’d like to use the pcie slot for a...
Hi all you smart lads and lasses, My home server is currently running openmediavault 5 and the admin panel will not load anymore. I’m unable to run omv-repair or any of their similar commands, so I’ve been keeping it up-to-date with ash and apt....
I see some very good deals on RackNerd through LowEndbox. Is the company reliable? I.e. I’m hoping there’s not going to be a situation like NexusBytes. Could someone confirm?
