I just browsed eBay a bit and saw that older, used SAS drives can be had pretty cheap - 30€ for 4TB, but of course rather old drives, sometimes 10 years old....

Im currently using photoprism for my photostorage but i wanna host it for friends/family as well. I wanna make sure the users feel comfortable with uploading their photos and have a zero trust setup so they dont have to trust me. Is this a possibility with photoprism or with a service similair i can’t find anything. THanks for...
I’ve done god only knows how many searches looking for a solution to this with no joy so any help you can offer would be great....
I'm curious to see what information I'm blasting out to the various services I depend on for internet (ISP, DNS, probably Cloudflare, etc.)....
I’ve noticed that sometimes when a particular VM/ service is having issues, they all seem to hang. For example, I have a VM hosting my DNS (pihole) and another hosting my media server (jellyfin). If Jellyfin crashes for some reason, my internet in the entire house also goes down because it seems DNS is unable to be reached for...
I have a little side business of doing minor repairs on phones and tablets and such....

All the solutions I’m seeing are some third party service where I would have to upload my videos to them to get them transcribed.
Google Analytics is broken on a bunch of my sites thanks to the GA4 migration. Since I have to update everything anyways, I’m looking at the possibility of replacing Google Analytics with something I self-host that’s more privacy-focused....

I’m very new to home networking. I’m not new to computers (hardware or software) - but for whatever reason, anything network-related has always been an enigma to me....
Hey there, I’m not exactly sure where to post this, but I have been trying to solve this issue for hours now. I have an old Intel NUC which runs Ubuntu/Docker with Sonarr, Jellyfin etc. I’ve found that it is slightly too slow for ‘live’ transcoding through Jellyfin. Enabling hardware transcoding I’m experiencing speeds...
Kind of a quick off the cuff question… but is it difficult to get a docker hosted jellyfin server accessible outside of lan safely?...
Hi everyone,...
Hey everyone, I asked about LDAP about a week ago and most people told me to use openLDAP. Now as I’ve read the openSUSE documents, it says to use 389ds, again I ask what’s the main difference?...
Hi folks, I’m looking for a specific YouTube video which I watched around 5 months ago....
Hello everyone, My home server (intel nuc6) died on me recently, I set it to be used as my home server using OpensSUSE Leap with the following services:...
Previously using 2 synology devices - one at my home location for NAS duties and another at a remote location for an off-site backup destination. I had a small army of nucs doing various hosting things. This worked well. But as many who self host can appreciate - just because it works doesn’t mean you can’t burn it all down...
My current setup is a NAS running on an old Acer Aspire laptop with an Intel core i5-6500u and 8GB RAM (and an Nvidia 920m but I’m pretty sure its not using that as I’m running headless Ubuntu server and haven’t installed the Nvidia drivers) with a 3.5" HDD plugged in via USB....
So, while this is not exactly a typical "self-hosting" question as many users might not be using domains, I would be curious if anyone else has any experience with this....
I’m trying to set up a group so multiple users can share a folder. I created the group and a folder for it but I’m not what paths I should use for both. The result is that the user can see the group folder in the web UI but an error occurs after clicking on it:...
