I have a couple of home server, both with Proxmox as hypervisor, one VM with Ubuntu 22.04 that does just Docker containers, one with Open Media Vault, one with Home Assistant (HA OS) and a couple of Windows VM to do some tests. Since I wanted to move from OMV, right now I see 2 options:...
Hello! Today I learned about the existence of LibreY, and the project seems very interesting. I was wondering, how does it compare with SearXNG? which one is easier to self host, and which one is lighter on resource usage? I’m particolary interested in opinions of people who used both...
I’ve gotten to the point where I have more than a few servers in my homelab and am looking for a way to increase reliability in case of an update. Two problems: 2 of the servers will be on Wifi and one is a Synology NAS. I can’t do any wiring but I can put together a WiFi 6E network for the servers only, That means buying 4...
A year ago I set up Ubuntu server with 3 ZFS pools on my server, normally I don’t make copies of very large files but today I was making a copy of a ~30GB directory and I saw in rsync that the transfer doesn’t exceed 3mb/s (cp is also very slow)....
I’m using tessypowder/backblaze-personal-wine, and I need to reinstall it due to some drive changes. I have tried docker rm [container ID], but when I add the container again, it seems to be stuck with the old wine settings. I have also tried adding it with a new name so it would theoretically be a totally new container, but...
I have a client with locally hosted security cameras. There is a DVR box that has a port open and a 3rd party app you can view the cameras from. Traditionally we have been forwarding the port to the WAN via the router there. Its a restaraunt btw....
I have a home server and I have some HTTP services running on it. I’m thinking if I should even bother with HTTPS, as I’m already using tail scale which should be peer-to-peer and encrypted. So I shouldn’t worry about any men in the middle....
I’m currently using Handbrake on a windows 11 installation of a desktop computer. I am planning on turning this desktop computer into a NAS and media server to replace my current raspberry pi 4 system. Handbrake works great on this computer, but I was wondering how I could use Handbrake on this system after I convert it into a...
I’m thinking of putting all my email archive (55k messages, about 6 GB) on a private IMAP server but I’m wondering how to access it remotely when needed....
As far as I’m aware, the only self hosted player character builder is the charactermancer in plutonium, the patreon-accessible Foundry VTT plugin made by the 5e.tools folks — but man. My kingdom for a dndbeyond alternative, something self hosted that can take open 5th edition content and allow my players to build and save...
I’ve picked up an eink Android tablet, which is awesome. However I have plenty of ebooks I’ve purchased over the years on places such as Humble, and I was wondering whether there was a self hosted solution like Plex/Emby/Jellyfin but designed for ebooks....
So I know, I know you’re not really supposed to change the domain of an already existing Mastodon server. But I did anyway and set the previous domain as alt domain in config. However, to see content of accounts I previously followed, I need to keep the old domain running. With a redirect in place to the new domain it breaks...
[update, solved] It was apparmor, which was lying about being inactive. Ubuntu’s default profile denies bind write access to its config directory. Needed to add /etc/bind/dnskeys/** rw, reload apparmor, and it’s all good....
