Why does my compost pile not attract flies?

We have been composting for about 6 months now, and I’ve noticed that flies leave it alone. Crows will pick through it, and it’s got a ton of worms but no flies. I have flies in my yard, but they avoid the compost. I’m following guidelines on what I can and cannot put in it. Any ideas? Not that I want flies in it at all, I’m just curious.

What are the contents? And yeah the crows could be eating the larvae.

Ooo I’ve got a stupid question Are the crows eating the flies?

I seriously doubt it. I think another answer is what it is. The compost is super hot all the time, especially because it’s in the sun for most of the day.

You could pour some hogfat on there to attract some flies but that might ruin the compost.

Fantastic! I didn’t know. I’ve subscribed. :)

Honestly the whole Solarpunk instance is clutch for the environmentally-minded. Loads of great and active communities.

Erk ,

It might attract fruit flies but if it’s like my compost it might be too hot for them. Compost shouldn’t include a lot of the things that attract larger house flies.

My compost occasionally gets crowds of flying bugs but it’s not a normal feature and usually means i need to tend to it some way or another.
