Maine passed a law to try to prevent mass shootings. Some say more is needed after Lewiston killings

Barely four years before a gunman’s deadly rampage in Maine, a state that is staunchly protective of gun rights, the governor signed a law aimed at preventing a mass shooting like the one Wednesday night that claimed at least 18 lives.

It was called a “yellow flag” law, different from the “red flag” laws cropping up in other states to seize weapons from gun owners viewed as a threat. In a sign of the pro-Second Amendment mindset in Maine, a gun-rights group helped write the law, and critics said that, while it was a first step toward stronger gun safety measures, the state could save more lives by doing more — like passing a red flag law.

The yellow flag law and permissive gun measures in Maine are coming under greater scrutiny in the aftermath of a massacre that authorities say was carried out by a man who was committed to a mental health facility for two weeks this past summer and had reported “hearing voices and threats to shoot up” a military base.

tallwookie ,

maybe they need a “colorblind flag” law

New England sucks.

I bet this situation is less about mental health and more about a person being used and manipulated by organized crime/boogaloo/sovereignty bullshit. Any political news is a positive for the people that use death, money, and division for power. Fear tactics for control.

I’ve watched criminals turn people insane in New England. Ime Americans are extremely naive about the crimes people can get away with.

Cops I’ve talked to don’t even care… They just want to bag Mexicans/minorities and small time violence/drug sales.

I’ve caught on to people using deadly acts just to scare people who found out about them. The people that do it still walk free. Life is hell. …in these small naive new England towns… so many “regular” people literally think it doesn’t exist. It’s heartbreaking and depressing. So much so I’m desensitized to this event and it’s literally geographically close to me.

Life is sad and sick and barely worth living once you see what people get away with. Mainstream and street. It’s dirty from bottom to top.

SheeEttin ,

That’s a conservative/rural thing, not a New England thing.

The people I know are connected to hiphop/street. Nyc through Boston and north. Drug and gun dealing shit. BUT they also have rural men doing dirt. The same hiphop guy pushed Jan 6th coup and Trump for 2020. Streets in mainstream are connecting for politics.

Hell just look at some photos of Roger Stone hanging out with both keepers proud boys and what looks like a blood gang member All the while looking like a b**** ass Mafia boy
