Apple Cancelled Jon Stewart Because Feckless Tech Executives Were Afraid Of The Pesky Truth

Last week, the New York Times reported that Apple had cancelled “The Problem With Jon Stewart.” More importantly, the Times noted that Apple executives, clearly not at all worried about the need for a healthy editorial firewall, had grown uncomfortable with the way that the program was planning to cover issues such as China and AI

Aww man, right when he was about to stop doing cringe hyperpartisan comedy-news and start doing real important journalism? That can’t be a coincidence.

People still surprised that Apple are the machine itself, they are big brother, they are 1984, and always have been since ..... 1984. That said, fuck John Stewart too.

Wait why fuck Jon?

ryathal ,

He’s a partisan hack using it’s just a comedy show as a defense.

the_q ,

Let me translate… “He says things I don’t like so he’s bad!”

As a defense of what? It seems to me he uses comedy to defuse the absurdity of the situation.

There’s no reason. That person is wrong. You can hate celebrities just because they’re celebrities but Jon has moved mountains for 9/11 first responders and literally got legislation unstuck that would have never passed without him putting pressure on feckless politicians that prefer the smell of their own shit than getting work done.

I don’t believe in celebrity worship but I also don’t believe in unnecessary celebrity hate. And I definitely value celebrities that use their status for good, and definitely celebrities that will go to bat for people who deserve to have someone in their corner.

Apple is all about control and image, their supporters are either ignorant of that or choose to tolerate it.

I canceled my Apple One or whatever it’s called subscription. I still use iCloud, but the rest of the subscription can be replaced by (usually) better services. No one should support Apple’s attempt to crush valid journalism (which I would definitely categorize John Stewart’s segments as).

Son_of_dad ,

Tbf what the hell did you expect from Apple? And why would Stewart even do a show for such a horrible corporation?

Probably because Stewart saw the $$$ and figured just like every other idiot that deals with that corporation that they might not be corporate assholes this time. Despite being on the paid side of the contract, he made the same mistake of forgetting… They’re still a money-grubbing corporation.

They don’t deserve money precisely because they want it so badly. Stewart should’ve been smart enough to realize that applies to both of Apple’s hands.

Why not? Fear?

NuXCOM_90Percent ,

Relative to the early 00s when the vast majority of “politics” people saw were the thinly veiled libertarian talking points from all the brainwashed MTV VJs? Stewart was a straight up G.

But he is very much a capital L liberal. On some topics he’ll lean more progressive, but he is an incredibly safe bet. And he has been in Entertainment enough to understand that is what Apple wanted.

It is just that China is one of those “controversial topics”. And AI is something that EVERYONE has an opinion on and Stewart’s is going to very much align with the Entertainment perspective… whereas Apple wishes they were Facebook.

Which upstanding media conglomerate capable of funding a multimillion dollar endeavor would you be referring to?
