After setback, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick names another judge to help with Ken Paxton impeachment trial

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick on Monday named Lana Myers, a former state appeals court judge in North Texas, as his counsel for the upcoming impeachment trial of suspended Attorney General Ken Paxton.

It was Patrick’s second effort at selecting a legal adviser for the trial after his first pick, Marc Brown, backed out amid questions about his impartiality.

protist ,

I have to ask the Texas Tribune, why would impartiality matter here? This judge is advising the Texas Senate on the law, not ruling on anything. Also impeachment is an inherently political process rather than a legal one.

For those who don’t want to read, the judge who backed out gave a $250 donation to Ken Paxton’s primary challenger a while back. That’s what this is about. Also, Ken Paxton will burn in hell
