US Navy sailor's mom encouraged him to pass military details to China, prosecutor says

The mother of a U.S. Navy sailor charged with providing sensitive military information to China encouraged him to cooperate with a Chinese intelligence officer, telling her son it might help him get a job with the Chinese government someday, the prosecution said Tuesday.

People like this family ruin it for all the hard working honest Chinese families that come here to try and improve their lives. This is fuel for racism and cultural distrust. Throw away the key.

This guy needs to die in prison. The mother should face charges &/or expulsion as well.

They would be under surveillance if they were protesting oil or trying to form a union.

Instead they are just being allowed to use fear and intimidation to undermine the freedoms some immigrants will experience in America. Strange that law enforcement seems to be ignoring the rival gang in its entirety.

You think they aren’t being surveilled?

The actual bar for treason in the US is a very high one and she almost certainly does not meet it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treason_laws_in_the_United_States

Fewer than 30 people have ever been charged with treason under these laws.[3]

In popular discourse, people assert that something is reason in a vastly wider range of cases than where the law is really applicable.

Prosecutors have said Wei, who was born in China, was first approached by a Chinese intelligence officer in February 2022 while he was applying to become a naturalized U.S. citizen, and admitted to the officer that he knew the arrangement could affect his application. Even so, prosecutors say he provided the officer detailed information on the weapons systems and aircraft aboard the Essex and other amphibious assault ships that act as small aircraft carriers.

I’m surprised he had access to that info while not even being a citizen.
