Judge rules Breonna Taylor's boyfriend caused her death, throws out major charges against ex-Louisville officers

  • A federal judge dismissed major felony charges against two former Louisville officers, ruling that Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend firing a shot was the legal cause of her death, not the flawed warrant.
  • The judge reduced civil rights charges against the officers to misdemeanors but upheld some lesser charges, with a trial still pending.
  • The U.S. Justice Department is reviewing the decision, while a third officer involved has already pleaded guilty to conspiracy and will testify.

If anyone wants to know what happened, here’s the NYT with fancy animations saying police killed her: youtu.be/lDaNU7yDnsc

We already had a good conversation about this over on this post yesterday, in case you missed it. Pretty sure it’s in the same community. Shittier source on that one (I hate Newsweek), but I think it’s better to join in on the existing discussion?

Thank you, I missed that!

No problem! Multiple sources is never bad, but one thing I struggle with on Lemmy is the disparate spreading out of convos across posts in the same community. I wish there were better tools to minimize this without generous posters like you having to keep track of every single post before submitting something new.

Fine, but, fwiw, the more conversations about this full of pissed off people, the better.

We should be spreading awareness, not consolidating it.

Fucking bullshit. Citizen uses the 2A for its rightful purpose and gets charged anyways.

Been saying, if my door explodes off the hinges without warning, I’m firing into the gap, no hesitation. A Colt .45 lives on my desk and I practice with it every week, not posturing here. If I can fall back to the AR-15 leaning on my nightstand, well, good luck to me I guess.

Been called a bullshitter, macho, tough guy, whatever. “What are you gonna do? Outgun the cops?! LOL, die then you idiot!”

If they no-knock my door, it’s a no-win scenario, they’re here to kill me, might as well die with my boots on. Not going to lay on my belly and beg for my life. (If you’ve never seen the pigs execute Daniel Shaver, give it a watch. Once was all I could handle.)

BigMacHole ,

Good! I know I say we Need Guns to Protect Ourselves against Intruders but you should NEVER shoot at unmarked unidentified Plain Clothes Cops who break in in the middle of the night UNLESS you want to Die!

realcaseyrollins ,

A federal judge has thrown out major felony charges against two former Louisville officers accused of falsifying a warrant that led police to Breonna Taylor’s door before they fatally shot her.

Maybe I’m wrong but Isn’t falsifying a warrant illegal??

catloaf ,

They are still facing separate charges for that.
