Jury selection to begin for ex-politician accused of killing Las Vegas investigative reporter

The trial of a Las Vegas-area politician accused of killing an investigative reporter who wrote articles critical of him will take center stage in Nevada on Monday, with jury selection scheduled to start in a case that stunned Sin City and the world of journalism.

“It turned everything upside down,” Tom Pitaro, a veteran Las Vegas defense attorney, said of the death of reporter Jeff German, who for 44 years developed deep confidential sources in the city, its government and its courthouses.

Pitaro also taught Robert Telles, the public official accused of killing German, in law school about a decade ago at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

“When you have an office-holder, a respected journalist, and the kind of killing it was, I think people are in shock about how this could come about,” Pitaro said.

Why the Fuck is ‘Robert Telles’ buried 3 paragraphs in instead of put in the first GD sentence? I hate how this article is written. Oh, and if anyone cares, Telles was a Democrat.

Warl0k3 ,

Its weird that you think the political affiliation matters…

Cephalotrocity ,

Yeah, totally weird to hear the description ‘politician’ and want to know who they represented. Nothing sensible in there at all.

Warl0k3 ,

I have no problem with the information being given - it’s not pertinent, but it’s a reasonable detail. I do think it’s telling that you felt the need to call attention to it, however.

Cephalotrocity ,

Yes, because its absence suggested either laziness or bias. Why wasn’t it mentioned unless the writer was concerned that simple 1 letter D would be used as ammunition or did insufficient research? My issue was how shoddily the article was written. Concealing information that people would find a reasonable detail was one of the gripes.

It’s weird you act so judgmentally with little thought on how it demeans the word ‘weird’.

It’s not important to the murder, which is what’s being discussed in the article.

Cephalotrocity , (edited )

I suppose the name of the accused wasn’t important either? Yet, it was buried 3 paragraphs in.

Edit: also, if ‘politician’ is important, then what kind should be as well. Edit Edit: I suppose affiliation only is important with regards to DUI charges?

Same agency and yet this time the article lists the suspect’s political affiliation (R - mentioned last paragraphs). I didn’t even need to look this up, someone posted the article on Lemmy right after I closed the first edit.

I didn’t say the word “politician” wasn’t important. The politician’s political affiliation IS unimportant.

Please try to verify that you are understanding the convo here.

Cephalotrocity ,

You need to check your own literacy skills there fren. You’re doing exactly what you claim I am doing.

Warl0k3 ,

Not presenting information is not concealing it.

Cephalotrocity ,

Not when your job is presenting information.

Warl0k3 ,

… What. What are you talking about. Their job is to present pertinent information. They also didn’t present the year he first started campaigning or the name of his opponent, both of which are also irrelevant. They’re fine to include, but they don’t need to be, and it’s certainly not concealing them to not include them.
