Retirement shouldn’t be an option for him. He was the head of the department and therefore has responsibility of those he leads, the deputies under him. If he didn’t want that responsibility then he shouldn’t have taken the job. People want the reputation and the salary benefits of leadership positions, but they don’t want the responsibility, or don’t understand it. For something like this the guilty deputy and his leadership should both be held accountable and responsible. The sheriff is a failure as a leader and his job.

He should have been fired already. No pension. Dare I say, due to the nature of this crime, he should have also been arrested? Leadership positions should be held to much higher accountability imo.

Retire with full benefits, probably.
