I heard that on July 21st, Biden was backed into a corner:
That day, Pelosi had allegedly told him in a zoom call that he had six days to tie up his loose ends because the party was done playing softball with him for the prior three weeks and that it was time for hardball–they were about to revoke his access credentials to their systems, cut off his funding, and reassign all his campaign staff out from under him whether he cooperated or not.
Instead of going quietly and letting them carry out a carefully planned and engineered transition, he thought,

“I forced your hand? I’ll fucking show you a ‘forced hand’… YEET!”
He told his staff literally one minute before actually sending those two pivotal tweets: the one where he withdrew, and the one where he IMMEDIATELY endorsed Harris, possibly even specifically because the luminaries of the party who had just threatened him DIDN’T want her. Just to STICK it to them.
Perhaps they could have dismissed his last stroke of defiance as a mistake of his advanced age…
