Indiana University did that literally a day before the anti-genocide protests started in a field where I spent a month in 1991 doing odd jobs for the tent city set up to protest the 1991 Iraq war. Before that, there was a long-lasting shantytown protesting apartheid in South Africa. Before that, there were anti-Vietnam War encampments.
But suddenly, students weren’t supposed to be there protesting after dark and the cops moved in and started their violence and began arresting people. There was even a sniper on the roof. Seriously.
