The next pandemic? It’s already here for Earth’s wildlife

Diana Bell, Professor of Conservation Biology at the University of East Anglua, urges the world to “completely overhaul poultry production on a global scale” and to “make farms self-sufficient in rearing eggs and chicks instead of exporting them internationally”.

“The trend towards megafarms containing over a million birds must be stopped in its tracks.”

uh no, globalism is here to stay. it’s far, far to late to put that genie back in the bottle.

Unless the alternative is cheaper we will not even consider implementing it. In this case it isn’t so you may as well give up any idealistic hope that a warning from scientists will change things. Start planning for the inevitable catastrophe instead.

Genuinely. I've been conditioned at this point now to just consider the bottom line before reading further into any article about the environment and the animals we share earth with. In fact no, it's not even exclusive to that.. Just anything really. If it's gonna effect someone's bottom line (that isn't the usual public) you can guarantee it won't happen.

Yeah it feels overly cynical thinking of things in those terms all the time but I think it’s the most realistic way to judge most things.
