White House looks to repeal funding bill provision that would keep US embassies from flying Pride flags

The White House on Sunday slammed Congressional Republicans for including a provision in the government funding bill that essentially stops LGBTQ+ Pride flags from being flown over U.S. embassies and vowed to repeal it.

“President Biden believes it was inappropriate to abuse the process that was essential to keep the government open by including this policy targeting LGBTQI+ Americans,” a White House spokesperson said in a statement to ABC News.

“While it will have no impact on the ability of members of the LGBTQI+ community to serve openly in our embassies or to celebrate Pride, the Administration fought against the inclusion of this policy and we will continue to work with members of Congress to find an opportunity to repeal it,” the spokesperson added.

So flags are important and all but can we get some money to UNRWA or at least do some material good for gay and trans people in states that are actively legislating against their bodies, or are we just gonna fight over a flag and call it a day? This has distraction written all over it, it’s all appearences.

Imagine being triggered over a fucking flag. All the problems this country faces and the only thing these losers can focus on is culture war nonsense. God forbid they actually try governing instead of the steady drip of fear and pearl clutching.

mhague ,

Just fly a pride flag and call it a covenant flag. Or Moses flag. They are easily tricked by changing words around.

What ever happened to the line item veto?

ryathal ,

Congress killed that decades ago.

Technically congress gave the power to the president with the Line Item Veto Act of 1996; it was the Supreme Court with their Clinton vs. City of New York ruling in 1998 that found the law to be unconstitutional. Now we need a constitutional amendment for it.

teamevil ,

Just ignore that stupid rule.
