In early April 2023, Teixeira was alleged by media to have regularly shared classified information in a server on the online chat service Discord called “Thug Shaker Central”, beginning at least by October 2022, both transcribed from documents he read and from printouts removed from his office on base. Chatroom members reportedly talked about and played video games together; according to The New York Times, Teixeira was identified as the chatroom administrator. Reports of the server’s size vary, between about two dozen and about fifty members.

On 28 February 2023, a Thug Shaker Central member was alleged to have posted dozens of pictures of classified documents to another Discord server. From there, someone else alleges they posted images found on that server to a Discord server associated with the Minecraft video game.

Beginning in 2021, players of “War Thunder,” a popular, free-to-play vehicular combat video game, have thrice posted classified documents related to three tanks of British, French and Chinese origin in an online forum dedicated to the game. The posting of the documents was reported first by UK Defence Journal, which wrote that one poster, who uploaded the manual to a British Challenger 2 tank, said he was motivated by a desire to get a “War Thunder” developer to make the tank more accurate in the game. Another poster, who claimed to be part of a French tank unit, uploaded a Leclerc S2 manual while engaged in an online debate about its turret rotation speed. The motivations of the user who posted allegedly classified information about China’s DTC10-125 tank and a piece of materiel were not clear.

Maybe it’s just looking at history through rose-tinted lenses, but it feels like a lot of espionage and information leaks today are just damned ridiculous.

They’re not even supposed to talk to their family about classified information, why do they think it’s ok on dating sites? There will just be more classes that 95% of the attendees will roll their eyes at the waste of time, but that vulnerable 5% may learn from. “Ohhh, I shouldn’t talk about this with my wife but I ALSO shouldn’t talk about it to sexy strangers on dating sites either? I did not realize that!”
