Corporations never do something on a whim. A drastic change like this studied, in detail, by experts, who determine the possible PR impact, possible revenue increases etc.
Netflix is a great example. Everyone and their mom was saying how they’d lose money during the password sharing crackdown. Yet somehow they had a massive increase in subscriptions that quarter.
