Supreme Court asked to block West Point from considering race as admissions factor

The group behind the Supreme Court cases that gutted affirmative action in higher education is newly asking the justices to block race-conscious admissions policies at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

In June, the Supreme Court handed down its landmark ruling effectively barring the use of race in college admissions, but the decision did not apply to the nation’s military academies.

Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA), which brought last year’s cases, has since looked to demolish the exception, suing both West Point and the Naval Academy.

The group so far has been unsuccessful, leading it to bring the issue Friday before the Supreme Court on its emergency docket.

A more honest name would be PPTBSFPTFCHWM (People Pretending To Be Students For Preferential Treatment For CisHet White Males) but that’s admittedly a bit of a mouthful…

Ending race based admissions helps Asians the most, but keep blaming white guys.

Viking_Hippie ,

Yeah yeah yeah, nice ass covering.

gregorum ,

That’s an argument for adjusting the system, not dismantling it.

Oh yeah I forget that we totally ended racism so we no longer need affirmative action /s

Melody ,

I hardly think doing the exact opposite of what only blacks consider racism is better either though.

College Admissions should be based on grades alone. Not race. Not gender. Not who had better “extracurriculars”. Not arbitrary test scores. Not disciplinary records. Not anything we find to be biased to one group or another.

If you don’t make the cut, it should purely be an Academic Skill Issue. Furthermore; we need more colleges too. More colleges that actually do what they supposed to do and help students into productively becoming employed and successful. Colleges that teach every student in a more one on one way so that their needs are met completely and they don’t struggle when compared to another graduate. Colleges that create students that are of all colors, who are impossible to discriminate against, as their skills are truly equal.

Nice White Supremacism. Blocked.

Melody ,

You fail to see that we want the same outcome; only that we disagree on how to do it. Do you truly care about abolishing racism, or are you just caring about what benefits one race? That’s racist in and of itself.

eskimofry ,

So we will just forget all of history and wake up tomorrow and say that a white guy and a black woman have the same chance of getting a well paying job?

Melody ,

No, there’s other problems we need to address too. Dealing with racism isn’t a quick fix, it’s something everyone has to work together to stamp out.

I think a business choosing to a hire a worse candidate because of their race deserves to suffer the consequences of having less-adequate employees.

It should reflect in their services, which should reflect in their customer retention and ultimately their profits.

This goes both ways.
