Here is your regular reminder that American Jews aren’t Israelis and American Muslims aren’t Hamas or other foreign militants. We are not foreigners. We’re Americans. Most of us were born here. Some of us have families going back for generations. We are not fighting for Israel or for Palestine, we’re trying to survive American low wages and the for-profit healthcare system like most of the rest of the country. We spend a lot more time watching Succession and The Masked Singer than Al Jazeera or i24 News, if we even watch those at all.
No, we aren’t Christians. Some of us aren’t white. Most of us aren’t considered white by many other white people once they find out we aren’t Christians despite what we look like.
The first Jews came to North America in 1654. The first Muslim came to North America in 1527 (as a slave). We have been here since long before the country was founded and we are as American as any other citizen.
