Former President Donald Trump has repeatedly disparaged Lisa Monaco and other Justice Department officials involved in the various legal cases against him.

Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco decried Republican claims that the Justice Department has been politicized against former President Donald Trump, saying those accusations have contributed to an “unprecedented rise” in threats against law enforcement and other officials.

In an interview with ABC News that aired Sunday, Monaco, who oversees all Jan. 6-related cases, said that those accusations “bear no resemblance to the Justice Department that I know. The Justice Department that I know is filled with dedicated men and women, investigators, lawyers, prosecutors, analysts, professional staff,” she said, adding that employees “get up every day without regard to who’s in the White House or who’s in Congress.”

“It really bothers me when I hear those claims because it does a disservice to the men and women of the Justice Department. It contributes to the toxicity that you’re speaking about,” she added.

This is such milquetoast pushback for this behavior. Why are politicians suddenly powerless to prosecute threats to public servants?

Instead of whinging about it on TV, start arresting these people and publicizing it. Start actually proving the connection between the two by using convictions, confessions, and evidence to point to influence by right wing politicians and media purposefully whipping their constituents into a bloodthirsty frenzy.

Whose minds do they think they are changing with these interviews?

I completely agree. I was hoping this would be the thing to get them off their asses and start doing something about all these threats but all we get is some hand wringing and a statement about how she disagrees with their accusations.

She wants to focus on her job of Jan 6 investigation, I guess.

I wonder what happens if GOP goes to SCOTUS to make this a first amendment right. It'd be horrible.
