It is literally a style rule for writing headlines.

RedditWanderer ,

What is this exactly? An article from 2013 explaining how to enshitify your news and get more clicks/reads? You’re saying this like it’s some rule for proper form or etiquette, when it’s really just the deceptive tricks of the trade.

From your “style rules” article:

More Thoughts on Newspaper Headlines

As you can see, the grammar rules for newspaper headlines can lead to ambiguous headlines, as many words are implied and not written. You may also see different vocabulary in headlines, with less common, but concise, verbs, such as bid, vow and spark. There are many additional style issues that certain newspapers use, for instance the capitalisation of every word, or joining conjunctions with commas instead of conjunctions.

So yeah, literally news people thinking it looks cool to abide by these dumb rules that clearly obfuscate the content. A style

Stay mad about inconsequential things and NOT the topic of the article, my dude.

RedditWanderer ,

Oh so now it’s not that it’s a rule, it’s that it’s irrelevant. Move the goalpost much, my dude.

While you’re citing stuff, can you tell.me where I find the rules that conversations on lemmy are limited only to the topic in the article, or any evidence that having things that way is beneficial? If you have time left, you can maybe also explain why hating on these garbage articles, and hating on the news in them are mutually exclusive concepts?

Dude, you’re mad at a HEADLINE and not the contents of the story. Maybe reassess your priorities.

RedditWanderer ,

I know you don’t read too good, but my last sentence means that I can comment / hate on the headlines we have nowdays, while still being mad at the headline itself and the content of the article. It can be both.

Yall are just showing how biased you are to anything regarding this topic. You are literally downvoting me for not posting what you wanted to hear in these comments, all this because you got tricked by some article about “proper headlines” and couldn’t admit.
