itsgroundhogdayagain , in Mayor Adams announces executive order aimed at restricting Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's migrant busing

This will surely make an impact.

Lol what is the point of this comment?

penquin , in Nikki Haley backpedals Civil War comments in which she made no mention of slavery

This woman will end Union (or at least tries her hardest) as we know it. She’s the biggest union buster and she’s proud of it. Corporation love her so much

meyotch , in Free returns are going away

If this weren’t just a rage-bait article that gets recycled every year, I would say good. There is a portion of consumers who compulsively buy and return, with never any intention of keeping and using the product. They just like clicking ‘Buy’.

(I personally think the behavior is a sign of emotional ill-health)

SuddenDownpour , in Florida teen allegedly shoots, kills sister after argument over Christmas gifts

Sanest Floridan family.

Strawberry , in 'Parasite' actor Lee Sun-kyun found dead in apparent suicide amid drug probe

oh cool a fascist police state

Facebones , in Inflation has created a dark cloud over how everyday Americans view the economy

Anytime you read about the economy booming, it refers EXCLUSIVELY to the Stock Market, no other metric. The stock market is a direct indicator of economic theft. It records how much economic activity/value is stolen from workers and transferred directly to stockholders.

So yeah, by that metric the US is killing it. By any practical measure, though… Not so much.

BlackSkinnedJew , in Free returns are going away

People ranting about Chinese crap, I suppose they think the shit they bought it’s made in Finland…

Everything it’s made in China you dumb bastards!!

tsonfeir , in Starting in 2024, Californians can redeem empty wine and liquor containers for cash
@tsonfeir@lemm.ee avatar

Make a free refill program instead ;)

UFODivebomb , in Kari Lake is in deep, deep trouble with judge's refusal to dismiss defamation lawsuit

Haha get fucked Kari

catbaba , in Pizza Hut franchises in California lay off all delivery drivers ahead of $20 minimum wage increase
MimicJar , in Quality of care declines after private equity takes over hospitals, finds nationwide analysis

The increases are seen in conditions or outcomes deemed preventable and are key measures of hospital safety and quality.

But not profit. If these hospitals were paid based on decreasing preventable conditions we’d all be much better off.

Right now coming into a hospital twice is more profitable than coming into a hospital once. If we (insurance) paid based on minimizing visits then both hospital safety and quality would increase.

That isn’t to say it’s perfect. Corporations will always find loop-holes in the name of profit, but it would be a good first step. (Assuming we’re going to have for-profit hospitals at all, which is the real mistake.)

Ghostalmedia , in America's housing shortage explained in one chart
@Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world avatar

I’m all for building new homes, but just posting data from Hines is pretty lazy journalism.

the_ocs , in Italian woman facing removal from UK despite ‘permanent residency’ card

Absolutely Brexit is self harm not often observed in otherwise well developed parts of the world. Is kicking her out a loss for the UK? Probably.

But this lady seems otherwise very capable, and it’s not like they’ve kept it a secret what she needed to do to get settled status, nor is it very difficult… so can’t say I feel too sorry for her.

And Brits living in the EU go through similar processes in those countries, with some “equally unfortunate” getting kicked out.

If you want to live in a country, you really should be responsible to get up to speed on local requirements.

averagedrunk , in Alcohol misuse and loneliness ‘increase risk of early-onset dementia’

I need to train my grip strength to combat my alcohol misuse.

quindraco , in Woman missing after going under river ice trying to save her dog in Alaska

Exactly. If she wanted to keep her dog safe, she had better options available than getting both of them drowned.
