xmunk , in A Christian school appeals its ban on competing after it objected to a transgender player

Good on the education department to stand firm on this… it is kind of hilarious that this Christian school is giving a hack to any competing teams - a transgender team member would guarantee victory simply due to the sheer power of trans…

But it’s also super shitty for them to refuse to play and further feelings of isolation that most trans teenagers struggle with.

As always, fuck Christians… the best of them are unoffensive but there are so many shitty ones.

orclev ,

Hilarious alternative response, allow them to play technically, but every single team now mysteriously has 1 trans member. Oh, so sorry, looks like we have no teams you’re eligible to play against, it’s an automatic loss, better luck next season.

I can’t wrap my brain around how this happened. It doesn’t seem physically possible. How high can those trailers be jacked up, exactly?

almar_quigley , in Rift between Parkland massacre survivor and some families of the dead erupts in court

Grief can be hard but wtf. The parents of the deceased didn’t suffer more than the person who survived. You can’t quantify suffering like that and that’s pretty shameful. I understand their worlds have been upended but that’s so petty. $1 less in settlement to acknowledge they had children who were murdered while this person has to deal with what is probably an enormous amount of ptsd among other things.

@irotsoma@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t think most of them were duped. It’s been exceptionally obvious for years. I mean I guess some of them are dumb enough not to realize, but most are just taking advantage of the money and power.

shoulderoforion , in Hunter Biden enters surprise guilty plea to avoid federal tax trial.
@shoulderoforion@fedia.io avatar

Trump pardoning every scumbag in existence when he was president, has left a very bad taste in my mouth, especially Joe Aprio (sp?) immediately springs to mind, among a rouges gallery of criminal clowns, so yeah I'd like to see a one two punch from the Bidens on Joe's way out the door, Hunter pleads guilty with no deal, gets sentenced to whatever it is these fucking Trump installed judges hand him, it becomes a flashpoint for the election, again drawing the line under the difference in accepting responsibility, and Trump, then Trump loses the election, and Joe pardons Hunter. I would turn my pockets inside out to rat fuck Trump exactly like this.

would_be_appreciated ,

He’s unquestionably getting pardoned. I disagree that we should feel good about another rich asshole getting off the hook because some other rich asshole wouldn’t like it.

njm1314 , in Hunter Biden enters surprise guilty plea to avoid federal tax trial.

The judge barred attorneys from connecting his substance abuse struggles to the 2015 death of his brother Beau Biden from cancer or the car accident that killed his mother and sister when he was a toddler.

How the hell is the judge qualified to claim that’s not possible? Does he have medical or psychiatric training? I mean I think Biden is a tax evader here and he deserves to be punished for stealing from the American people, but this judge seems unhinged to be making these broad rulings based on nothing as far as I can tell.

Either way though I’m glad to see a rich fuck pay for this. I deeply wish more of them did.

corsicanguppy ,

I think Biden is a tax evader here

The beauty of a glass house is you can see out from any side. Even if you’re not an accountant who focuses on taxation.

Semi_Hemi_Demigod , in President Biden Visits Westby, Wisconsin, Announces $7.3 Billion for Clean, Affordable, Reliable Electricity for Rural America; The Largest Investment in Rural Electrification Since the New Deal.
@Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world avatar

So this is a press release, meant to be consumed by interns in a news room to stitch into a barely read story on a news site.

But reading between the lines, this is $7.3 billion going to improve the grid for a bunch of rural electricity cooperatives, which is pretty great. Moving the energy generated around is a big problem, especially when some weird hippie moves in and puts a ton of solar panels down hoping to sell energy back to the grid.

(It’s me. I’m the weird hippie. Hopefully, someday.)

someguy3 , (edited ) in China says it is ending foreign adoptions, prompting concern from US

Probably worried about population decline. They abandoned their 1 child policy quite awhile ago and now have a maximum 3 child policy.

Yawweee877h444 OP ,

Yeah and according to wiki the 3 child policy isn’t even enforced?

…allowing each couple to have three children and cancelling restrictive measures including fines for couples having more children than permitted.

PrincessLeiasCat , in Father of Georgia school shooting suspect told investigators he purchased gun as holiday present for son, sources say

Sorry, but question that’s unrelated to the story specifics:

The classroom doors lock automatically, and near the end of class, the suspect knocked on the door to try to come back in, Lyela said.

Another student went to open the door but apparently saw the gun and refused to let him in, Lyela said.

Instead, the shooter turned to a nearby classroom and opened fire, “and you hear about 10 to 15 rounds back-to-back,” Lyela said.

“I heard gunshots outside my classroom and people screaming, people begging not to get shot,” said 14-year-old student Macey Right.

Did the other rooms not lock, or was he let in because the person who opened the door in the other classroom not notice the gun?
