DeSantis is out of control and has regularly removed innocent Democratic politicians throughout Florida using statues that exist only to remove criminal wrongdoers and national security threats. He’s weaponised the system of appointments and operates in complete disregard for the law.
I mean he’s not completely wrong. That did happen over 100 years ago. We closed Ellis Island since then. So it’s kinda painfully out of date. I don’t think our current immigration problem resembles that movie.
Here’s a really good rule of thumb: don’t shoot someone that you feel threatened by until they break into your house. As long as they are outside–and not shooting at you through the door–you are not in imminent danger. This is a situation where you can readily call the cops and wait. If the neighbor had kicked the door in and come inside, then we’d be looking at a legitimate self-defense claim. But you will almost never get to claim self-defense if you’re shooting through a closed exterior door in your home at someone outside of your home.
If you’re going to carry for self-defense, the most important thing you can learn is de-escalation, so that you don’t murder someone.

“Baffle them with bullshit” has been a saying for quite a while. But with Trump it’s more like “give them a stupidity migraine.” The stuff that comes out of his mouth hurts my brain to hear it.
You can’t help but to try to parse some meaning out of his words. They sound like English. But he assembles them in an arcane order where the harder you try to understand him, the less anything he says makes sense. He is like a human word cloud where you just have to infer the message based on the biggest, boldest words.
So yes, it’s hard to beat an opponent in a debate when you have to try to understand what he’s saying in order to form a cogent counterpoint. His audience of the hearing- and vocabulary-impaired only absorb the gist without ever attempting to parse actual meaning out of it.
It is truly a thing of wonder, and if the future of our nation didn’t hinge on it, it would be fascinating to explore. I hope future generations, unburdened by the threat of another Trump Presidency, might be able to study this and harness this power for good.

Earlier in the year SCOTUS was making many decisions I would call liberal. Or, at worst, allowing lower court decisions to ride. It was so surprising that I started a bookmark list, 28 at the moment.
Then they went bug fuck nuts, haven’t added to the list in weeks, if not months. What happened!? Were they trying to lull us into believing they weren’t so conservative? Did they stack the docket to slam dunk this shit through in one stretch?
Er… waitaminute I thought the claim all this time was that Hamas != Palestine, that Hamas was not in control of the territory but merely using the people of Palestine as a shield. Isn’t the government of Palestine supposed to be distinct and separate from Hamas?
It’s complicated. Hamas won a majority of seats in Palestine’s parliament in 2006, but Fatah didn’t like that. There was a bit of a civil war, and it ended up with Hamas controlling Gaza and Fatah controlling the West Bank. There haven’t been any elections since. So no, Hamas doesn’t represent all of Palestine, but they were democratically elected in 2006. They are in control of Gaza, but neither the West Bank, nor both territories as one Palestine. Really, there is no united Palestine right now. And I’m sure Israel is very happy to keep it that way.
