There have been multiple accounts created with the sole purpose of posting advertisement posts or replies containing unsolicited advertising.

Accounts which solely post advertisements, or persistently post them may be terminated.

that’s going to be a problem with federated stuff. Not sure there’s anything stopping them from creating a new instance once they get defederated.

Well, you just have a cautious policy about brand new instances. It seems to work for email.

Really, I expect long term making a Lemmy account will be a lot like making an email account, since the incentives are pretty much the same for all players as for email.
