I love the attention to detail, putting the upsell “30days of msn premium” between the “start” and “all programs” buttons, beautiful.

but it’s also a very good visualization what windows user got slow boiled into

Look how they massacred my boy…

TankieTanuki ,

Is there an Easter egg or is this just nostalgia?

DaTingGoBrrr ,

Start menu looks like Win10/11 with ads, suggestions and news. This is not how XP used looked like

Liz ,

It’s so well done I image that everyone who was too young to use XP doesn’t realize this is satire.

ZoraMystery ,

I don’t remember seeing all the internet links in the start menu.

Bongles ,

That’s the meme

We’re in the trash timeline.

Windows is ideal for experts, Twilight Zone lovers and desire for adventure, for the rest Linux is better (In the beginning it was the other way around, the first Distros even caused some suicids)

RETVRN

SynopsisTantilize ,

I crave retro futuristic. The flesh craves nostalgia. Also… pentiums and 512mb of ram would have fucking been cooked if they tried this lmao

meowMix2525 ,

Honestly though can we go back to the days or at least adopt design philosophies where the entire OS, programs, and everyday browsing could fit on just that much ram

ursakhiin ,

Think about the Pentium versions of the Celeron, too. XP was their peak time.

SynopsisTantilize ,

Honestly maybe even their only time to shine.

Woah cool website, I don’t how’d you know about this but thanks you

How? Using Internet since more than 25 Years result in only ignoring the most new pages.

zaphod ,

Nice, even moving the computer into the trash worked as expected.

Even a community in GitHub with forks, mods and plug-ins.

That’s kind of overwhelming to me. It’s like there’s no bottom to that rabbit hole. I love it and I have so many questions.

I love this, I wasted so much time on my phone. The Playstation start up sound was amazing. I need to open it on a conputer

The Doom (Gafa 3D) really works like the original, with some “differences”.

Vulve is my favourite company. Can’t wait for their new game store, stamp, to come out!

kuneho ,

Since at that time these shits weren’t really normalized, I can imagine some people would actually like these things and maybe even use them.

I like this image - it is really nicely done. I don’t like what it represents, but the image itself is decent.

jaybone ,

I remember seeing AOL on Win3.11 (I had been using telnet, pine, lynx.) and it looked like a bunch of spam ads.

EnderMB ,

Given that this was the prime time for Bonzi Buddy, I’m inclined to say I agree with you. People chose these things years ago, because it added more to the experience outside of “here is your word processor, here is notepad, here are the three games you have to play”.

kuneho ,
@kuneho@lemmy.world avatar

And Bonzi even was a 3rd party thing. Now imagine that shit, just built into the system by that time. 😅

Heck, even MSN Browser was a thing and I’m pretty sure just because it said “Good afternoon” or some shit when you launched it.

olutukko ,

windows has normalized all that shit so well that this image is genuinely disturbing compared to the win 11 start menu. I am glad my windows days ended years ago

blindsight ,

It’s missing filling the start bat with a massive Copilot box and weather/news widget. Or maybe missed an opportunity to make Clippy the AI assistant.

I love-hate it.

fox2263 ,

Those msn searches 🤣

Instance blocking doesn’t block comments?

Dirk ,
@Dirk@lemmy.ml avatar

That is correct. Your instance needs to defederate from the other instance to also block comments/users.

User-based instance blocking is actually just hiding posts from that instance. It does not hide or block comments made from users of that instance on posts that are not coming from that instance.
