Regulators: allows the meat industry to put creatures in the filthiest conditions possible disease starts spreading and affecting the industryRegulators: 😧
This is spot on. The meat industry for years has been trusted because of regulation. The moment you take away regulation you take away trust and start a race to the bottom. Ask any of these other deregulated industries:
-News and Television -Deregulated in the 90s
-Boeing and commercial aircraft - Merged unchallenged in the 90s and the FAA allowed “self reporting”
Selfishness and greed. Anyone that stands up stands alone, and the others are quick to lick a boot as they grovel for scraps. For some inconceivable reason too many consider this preferable to standing together and working to make things better.
It’s not selfishness and greed so often as it is fear and ignorance. Education remedies the ignorance and steels people against the fear that keeps them from working together against a seemingly more powerful force.
North American here. Funny how it’s very much less “which is it?” And more “Yeah. Basically.”
We’ve been culturally domesticated to not cause trouble for our bosses / schools / etc. If the State steps in after you cause trouble for enterprise, it’s usually to kick you back into your place.
We might not live in a State dictatorship, but that only matters so far, because that State enables many tiny, petty dictatorships that more directly affect your life and run amok unopposed.
Somehow people accept petty tyranny in everything from corporations to universities to shifts at the burger joint. They’ll get all riled up that some politician they never met is bawking about foreign policy, but their tail is tucked firmly when their company tells them they can’t get sick days and arriving a minute late is a fireable offense.
Many have bought the lies of rugged individualism and competition. “An insult to one is…well, that really sucks for you but I told you to just stay quiet. I’m just working hard doing what I’m told.”
Like someone said before me: Even the most rebellious in us think twice about making our move, because many people simply think “That’s how it is.” And don’t believe it can get any better.
There’s not a lot of examples of collective action winning in recent history, so a lot of people don’t even know how to begin to push back in the first place, besides writing an angry tweet or two.
A professor at my university tried that, but the students quite quickly made a huge fuss, got the principals office involved, and the universities lawyers informed said professor that what she was doing was illegal, and that she should stop before she got any more trouble. She stopped.
Possibly a poor translation from my side: I’m referring to the “head office” of the university, i.e. the group of people under the direct leadership of the principal, who have the highest administrative authority at the university.
You might want to consider looking up “Jodorowsky’s Dune” for a bit more insight into how… huh… let’s say “influenced” Star Wars (and others for that matter) was by Dune overall.
I beg of you, just eat beans it’s so much easier than trying to fix industrial meat agriculture. There will never be a fix for it that makes ut affordable and green.
Waiting on lab grown meat to go vegan is the same thing as waiting on carbon recapture to solve climate change. We can, and must, do shit now but that requires inconvenient changes to out way of life. Instead we jump on half-baked bandwagons to tech ourselves out of a miserable future because we don’t want to be confronted with the idea that we might be wrong.
Yeaaaaah my ex accused me of being narcissistic, when I was spending literally all my money on them, letting them use my credit cards, paying for trips to be with them, moving across state lines to be closer to them, etc etc across many years. Basically neglecting myself, and especially my finances. I’m disabled too so I’m already running on a shoestring budget. Who needs to buy things for themselves when you can put a person on a pedestal and live through their happiness? (therapy fixed that, but fuck me it did some brutal damage)
My friends, who have met my ex both irl and interacted with them online, every single one both warned and sided with me, when things fell apart. Even going as far as arguing with me when I tried to defend my exs point of view on various topics/occasions. It’s almost like being born into privilege and money can make one a terrible person when even the person who would move the world for you, can’t afford every thing for you, and finally after years puts their foot down that I don’t want them to do something (after allowing them to sleep around, share intimate things that I feel only should only be done with their partner(s), burden myself heavily financially, buying gifts regularly with no reason other than to show affection, moving 800+ miles just to be brushed off, being dropped like a sack of shit with 0 emotion when he left me…).
But hey, apparently he says I’m the narcissist. Projection is a bitch, y’all.
Anyway, what was I getting at? Oh, uh, yeah. If one person says you’re a narcissist, fuck em. But if everyone says your a narcissist/everyone else is… might want to look into that.
I mean, the warnings didn’t come until we were engaged, and I listened but I wasn’t about to break away from a marriage because of warnings. At that point we had been together for 5y and the good outweighed the bad up until that point.
It was year 6 that he became cold, heartless, and borderline abusive (and then left me when my usefulness had ran out [e: and also the fact that I dare put my foot down for the first time in the whole relationship, too]). By that time, I was bracing for the implosion.
Yeah I got called a narcissist with my worst ex and then just flat out asked if they knew what it meant, I think it was a little telling they didn’t actually know (not that I do either lol). It’s really hard being with someone who makes you feel loved but doesn’t love you and I’m so proud of you for being on the other side of it and being happy!
We keep 10,000 chickens in a single huge building whose floor is literally layers of their old shit, give them just enough room to stand there and not move around, and leave it there without any environmental controls through the hottest days of the year. What do you mean disease is prevalent?
