Its been consistently self-reported by Harvard students. And another effect is present, too - excellence leads to being placed in competitive environments, where everyone else is just as excellent. And this can make brilliant people feel stupid.
Intelligence also doesn’t necessarily translate to actual success. I’ve been through numerous assessments as a child that confirmed I am comfortably in the “green zone” (if measured by IQ, that is), but I also have pretty severe ADHD so I can only really make use of my brain for short periods of time.
I can get a week’s worth of work done in a day, but only once a week, and I spend the rest of the week wondering where I’d be if only I could work like that every day. I was also a decent student in school/uni but never near the top of the class, because I couldn’t bring myself to study for anything more than a few days before the exam.
Well, there necessarily need to also exist below average Harvard students. Its probably more of a shock to have the one thing you might have been proud of, being rather smart, be taken away once you get there and realize you are probably at most average and have to find a new identity

I rented an electric car over the summer and the acceleration damn near pushed my eyeballs back in my head. No gear shifting at all, just continuous acceleration. An electric grocery getter will blow the doors off nearly everything you can throw at it from the previous 50 years. Will not be looking back fondly on my manual transmissions.
My main point was that electric vehicles are redefining the driving experience. Automatic transmissions are now also obsolete, along with internal combustion engines, period. Driving a single electric vehicle for a day: life changing. They are the future.
I miss my MME, but if you are saying ICEs are obsolete then you haven’t explored much of the country. There are huge swatches where it is impossible to charge or far more expensive to change than using gas in a hybrid.
Are you posting from 2015? Range anxiety is also obsolete. Most people charge their EVs at home over night. Way cheaper than gas. There are new charging stations popping up every day as well. I will grant that they are a ripoff, but I expect they will get cheaper.
It was incredible to see it live unprepared. When you look chronologically through his paintings, you see basically every modern style there is - the guy participated in a lot of art movements over the twentieth century—and was proficient and productive in several of them. He starts classically, but soon descends into surrealistic nightmares and all the other things he became famous for. And then, finally, in the end, after all this insanity of lines and cubes and shapes and trying to figure out meanings (or at least subjects), you come to the last painting in the exhibition, and it really looks like something a talented ten-year-old could draw - full of life and innocence and optimism.
Fuck Elon Musk, but this is one of Jim’s worst moments in that show. If someone comes back from an extended therapy program with a set of tools and techniques they are using to solidify and remind themselves of the changes they have made to themselves and their lives, and one of them is as simple as asking you to use the other half of their legal name as their short form moniker, you have to be a an asshole not to do so. So yeah, call Musky’s new sinking ship whatever you want, but don’t be Jim Halpert about it, because Drew never crossed the line in anger again. /rantover
One of my favorite shows cause everyone was charming but flawed, just like real life. If you filmed any of us for years, the viewers would say we are Irredeemable piles of shit just cause of our day to day mistakes and actions.
The way I see it, office fans genuinely like talking shit about Andy and don’t think people like him deserve respect. And they liked Jim’s rejection in this scene, because they agree with it.
This isn’t about dunking on a fictional character, it’s about addressing the audience.
Jim is kind of an asshole a lot throughout the show, like repeatedly disrespecting Dwight’s martial arts and belts as a joke. Disrespecting his wife because she believes in the paranormal and he doesn’t. He makes fun of Dwight for being into “fake stuff” but is all about fantasy football. Plop doesn’t like sports so Jim immediately says that they have NOTHING in common, like a person’s entire worth is wrapped up in what sports they like. He belittles and looks down on everyone, even his bosses, but he has no personality beyond sports and pranks. Jim is a guy I would never get along with in person.
I’m no longer in the fan community for the show but I’ve been waiting for the day that everyone realizes that Jim’s entire character for the first 5 seasons is bullying his autistic coworker. That’s literally it. That, and having an emotional affair with his engaged coworker.
