Perhaps lemmy admins should start charging apps like this for API access…

EmilieEvans ,

The intent is to provide developers with a sense of pride and accomplishment for being able to pay the API bill.

I use Infinity for Lemmy you wanna use something else good for I’ve used sync myself it’s good, it’s in beta and it has a couple of ads if you want them gone pay or if your that desperate then pirate or use luckypatcher it’s not that hard but honestly your better off just using a different client if you don’t wanna pay there is like a good 7 options now at this point and I hope these posts go away soon let people use what they fancy and stop terrorising them or ridiculing then (note = intended for idiots who think criticizing people for the Lemmy client they use is a constructive use of their time not the OP who appears to be sane 🤣)

If you pay, the Google ad tracking is removed. So this meme is dumb as fuck

Also, okay? Who cares if you don’t use it.

They really were fantastic to have in a moment of frustration or rage - there's nothing like ending a conversation by throwing your phone at the wall/floor and watching it smash in to a dozen pieces, all of which you can later collect, easily put back together, and switch it back on for it all to be perfectly fine.

Was great in those days of teenage drama, though I would honestly love to have something as robust nowadays, some calls really do deserve that kind of treatment lol

agitatedpotato , in Choose your side carefully ☯️

Idk how long a lot of you have been off reddit but I was there just after Sync for lemmy was announced and it had a lot of people saying they’d come over with Sync. So Idgaf if it’s got ads or a premium fee, because I don’t have to use it. I can just let the people who want it use it and let the fediverse grow.

I liked how, when you had an alarm set up, you could even switch off the phone and it'd still turn itself on automatically in the morning and ring to wake you up. It was actually more reliable than dedicated alarm clocks, since those needed manual time adjustment when there was a winter/summer time change, or when there was a power outage.

Nowadays, I always have to double check the phone has enough charge before going to sleep.

robotrash ,

Are there people that don’t plug their phone in at night? Why?

Ferk ,
@Ferk@kbin.social avatar

Leaving a lithium battery charging for a long time, even when it's already 100% can degrade it.
Most devices have failsafes against this, but I still always try to not leave a device charging if its already mostly full... perhaps it's just me being paranoid, but what I rather do is set up rules so that the phone automatically goes into airplane/battery saving mode at night.

StarLuigi ,
@StarLuigi@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

The pixel’s adaptive charging is so good for this, I can just plug it in and not worry about it. It just slows the charging speed and has it automatically be at 100% by the time my alarm goes off.

robotrash ,

Battery tech is so much smarter now this is barely a concern these days, especially for phones. I feel like my modern devices don’t lose any capacity over the 2 or so years I have them.

MoltenHydrogen , in It's so nice to see them all growing, but this is just the truth, sorry.

Liftoff is pretty good. Has need a lot of updates in the time I’ve used it

corm ,

Liftoff freaking rules. I can view /m/all, true ALL, not related to my instance, and I can comment on any post by having a few lemmy accounts (sopuli.xyz main, lemm.ee covers most everything else, plus beehaw).

Liftoff is the only one I know of that plays nice with multiple accounts and the whole fediverse

If it spies on me, if it shows me ads, then it’s not free.

spacedancer ,

Yeah, I think a lot of the people who are against are the ones who don’t like the ad-removal model, because you are paying to remove ads on an app that uses a platform whose foundation is built against ads and tracking. The subscription model or one-time payment for life is fair IMO; people are free to support the dev (and please support the lemmy devs and instance admins too!). It’s the ads (and tracking that come with it) that’s kinda weird.

snooggums ,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

Reality: what you pay goes more to monetization than the user experience

beyond ,

As an end-user I believe I am entitled to the freedom to use, modify, and share the software I use. If your business model is incompatible with my values I won’t support you, simple as. I don’t have any problem monetarily supporting developers but not if they disagree with my principles.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this exact argument made against ad-blockers, too.

HKayn ,
@HKayn@dormi.zone avatar

You do have the freedom to modify the proprietary binary you’re being given. You just can’t distribute your modifications.

stappern ,

So it’s not free. Which is the point.

HKayn ,
@HKayn@dormi.zone avatar

Irrelevant to the point I’m making. Whether something is open source or not does not impact your freedom to modify it, just the freedom to distribute your modifications.

stappern ,

No it’s not you just don’t understand that withouth collective control you can’t have individual control.

For fucks sake everyone stop arguing about what you use. The whole point of an open standard is that you can use anything to use lemmy. If you want to sell your left ball and all your privacy you do you.
