I live in NYC, and I read this story yesterday, and they didn’t shoot the guy for hopping the turnstile / not paying the $2.90, they chased him and tried to give him a $100-150 fine; but the guy lunged at them with a knife.
The cops panicked and began firing because they don’t have H2H training, and their aim is obviously shit. It’s so shit, that I think they missed their taser shot as well before hitting random people in the crowd with their sidearms.
Not defending the police but the meme’s a gross oversimplification. Those guys need more training and probably a suspension until they finish a full course of training, or a dismissal (or perhaps even up to and including manslaughter charges) depending on if the bystanders live or not.
I wish shit like this wasn’t as common as it is. So many innocent people and dogs die each month due to police incompetence.
Stuff like this makes me think memes like this are some kind of new form of propaganda where the idea is to make you made at a situation, but for the situation to appear to have no solutions. So you’re just upset about stuff and want someone to do something about it.

It’s that they need to not exist in the first place to terrorize people and chase them down for fare jumping to the point someone would be scared enough to brandish a knife. As if it’s not unreasonable to fear for your life when a flock of pigs drop their candy crush and come at you because holy shit something happened.

I assume that the whole “Stalin starved his people” thing isn’t talking about the average conditions of the Soviet Union during more “normal” times, but rather specific events of mass starvation like the Holodomor. That being said, famine caused by accidental or malicious management of agriculture is something hardly unique to any single economic system (I imagine a comparison could be made to the Irish potato famine there, for an example of a similar type of disaster under a different economic system), so I’m not sure if it reflects entirely on the kind of system the Soviets were going for as much as it does mistakes in the process of transitioning to that system, and malfeasance on the part of those in charge in pushing the consequences of those mistakes upon disfavored groups.
Personally I tend to think that the Bengal famine is better compared to the Holodomor, as it is closer in time, area, and effect. If there is a lesson to these things though, I think it’s that it doesn’t matter what economic system you use of the people in charge are fans of eugenics, and that’s why it’s so important that there be strong independent checks on the government and politicians, minority representation, multi-party rule, etc…
Just thinking; maybe if people stop trying to get rid of political target and instead started target billionaires, then maybe, just maybe, the world would be a better place for everyone.
I guess that’s the main problem with billionaires, is we didn’t pick any of them, and once they’re a super billionaire we can’t really do much about them.
Oh don’t buy their products? They’re invested in everything, most food brands are just different names for the same factories. Oracle billionaire? WTF are you going to do to protest Oracle? Politicians we, are supposed to, pick. Billionaires become billionaires generally by being the worst, then there isn’t anything we can do about it.
So we need to get the politicians on our side to keep the billionaires in check… or violent revolution. I’m a pacifist so I like the first one more, but if the majority is up for the second one, I’m not gonna say ya’ll are wrong.
You forgot they’re also criminal masterminds who smuggle in thousands of dollars in drugs over the border, kill hundreds of Americans without getting caught, are master engineers that build massive tunnel networks underground, and scam the government out of billions of dollars via welfare programs.
Honestly I wish immigrants were the people conservatives think they are because they’d have an insane set of skills we could use.
I like how all these posts are by people who have never lived under a socialist regime and have no idea what it really feels like (not great). Is it the West’s fault that socialist nations repressed freedom of speech? And don’t get me started on things like LBGT rights in the USSR.
