RIP delisted

taiyang , in You still have three wishes.

Funny how I’m an era with 70inch+ TVs, split screen feels like a relic. No, instead we had to do our split screen on 18inch CRTs. Tsk.

At least it exists still in the indie sphere (and I guess Lego games, when far apart!).

CaptainBlagbird ,
@CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world avatar

Aaah those times… Were you an over/under, or a side-by-side player?

taiyang ,

Side by side, but let’s be honest, over/under gives a better field of vision. Depends on the game, I guess.

Woe to the people with more siblings and the four way split.

NakariLexfortaine ,

The Four Way Split was glorious chaos, and only the craftiest screenpeeker survived. You learned psychological warfare, trying to make everyone second guess which section was theirs.

FordBeeblebrox ,

Over/under should give you a wider field of vision, unless it’s some bullshit like COD Cold War where my gf and I go to shoot zombies together and it puts black bars around 20% of the screen and makes it feel cramped on a 70” tv.

MeatsOfRage ,
BCsven ,

Lego split screen did it well. side by side but if you move to some areas and other player does other things the vertical line starts to tilt and go horizontal, especially as you merge screens for co-op tasks

taiyang ,

Funny, cause my wife found that kind of annoying for some reason. Iirc, it was optional though. (I ultimately had to solo most of the ones I had, but I’ll get back into it when my kids are older, haha)

CaptainKickass , in You still have three wishes.

Couch co-op ftw!

dead_man , in You still have three wishes.

@furycd001 try buying from GOG. They won't anymore

furycd001 OP ,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

I personally don’t buy many games anymore. Most of the games that I play are either half-life mods, TF2C , older valve games like DMC & DODS, or the original Quake & Doom games…

walter_wiggles , in This game gave me PTSD 😩

But what is the game? I’m feeling pretty happy about it so far.

Glytch ,

Spec Ops: The Line

Great game with some truly horrifying imagery. White phosphorous is baaaad.

SzethFriendOfNimi ,

And that’s the point of the game. It’s an art piece on the horrors of war.

A deep dark look at what war truly can be instead of the glorified way it’s often portrayed.

Heavy like This War of Mine and Papers Please

Lemonyoda ,

Glory to Arstotzka!

God, the OST alone will be forever Stück in my head.

meekah ,
@meekah@lemmy.world avatar

A piece inside your head you say?

Fitting autocorrect error lol

For me it’s not the soundtrack but the voice that comes through the speakers when you call the next in line that’s stuck in my head.

rustyfish ,
@rustyfish@lemmy.world avatar

The game fucks with you. You start thinking you being the hero in the story. But you keep doing more and more fucked up shit, justifying it all because the main character is blended by his sense of justice…aaaaaand a pretty heavy psychosis.

One of the most well known parts for example: You know these cool levels in CoD, when you see the battlefield from above with an infrared camera and shoot at targets on the ground? You do something similar here too. Just to see later that you just burned a refugee camp to the ground with phosphorus bombs. You get to see the whole horrific mess you just orchestrated.

Your teammates also make a lot of comments that only make sense later, when you figure out that you have lost your mind and talked to people who aren’t there, etc. probably to cope with the shit you are doing.

I can’t recommend this enough.

MeowZedong ,
@MeowZedong@lemmygrad.ml avatar

The loading screen tips also begin to change as you progress, going from normal tips to lines like, “So, you think you’re a hero?”

HotWheelsVroom OP ,

“Do you feel like a hero yet?”

ninjabard , in This game gave me PTSD 😩

Imagine that mission in the original Modern Warfare 2 but making that feeling last the entire game. 10/10 won’t be playing again any time soon.

MikeOToxin ,

Played it one time, and that’ll be all.

No need to revisit that.

More games like this and HiFi rush and less yearly triple A cash grabs.

We don’t need another COD or a yearly FIFA patch, give us some damn originally and some fucking emotions besides hype building marketing techniques.

One of the best games I have ever played. Short, fast, depressing af. Love it.

MyPornViewingAccount , in This game gave me PTSD 😩

God this game was soo good and horrifying

supertrucker , in How do you create a communist revolution?

You actually create a communist revolution by having a leftist demagogue convince a group of bored trust fund babies that they’re lives would be paradise if they only fundamentally change the government. The same demagogue goes to elite keyholders in the old government and promises power un the new government if they change sides. The revolution happens. Scores are settled, and many of those same trust fund babies are put against the wall, because the demagogue wants absolute political power, not a utopia for his supporters. The country is weakened, while political and civil rights are curtailed for the greater good

crusa187 , in This company is the laughing stock of gaming right now

Ubisoft has been trash for a long time now. It’s a shame that they control some good IP, but the company’s too far gone to ever be trustworthy. Save your time and money and just play something else imo.

psud ,

If they die, other companies will buy that IP

Fingers crossed

They know people are making a private server so revoked everyone’s license so that even when they finish it, everyone will have to pirate their own game to play it.

I wish more people would buy stuff on GOG, although some games there still have some sort of DRM, Kalypso published games come to mind.

Still, way, way better in terms of ownership than what other platforms offer.

Schadrach ,

I thought they had on several occasions dropped games from the store because they had DRM. Which DRM titles does GOG still have?

Last game I paid good money for was on GOG. Everything added to my steam account in the last few years has either been part of a humble bundle or a freebie from somewhere.

ICastFist ,
@ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

GOG sometimes fails to keep some offline installers up to date with what Galaxy installs, some people consider that a DRM, I consider it a service failure.

You can also find some reports checking this thread - the post in question says Beat Hazard 2 won’t run after a clean offline install on a computer without internet. Not DRM per se, as that check only happens once and it creates a savefile
