Presi300 , in Wine gaming broken on Fedora 37 with Wine 8.12?

Don’t use playonlinux, it’s dead and doesn’t work, use lutris. And update to fedora 38.

I liked the look of this project but I can not make it run on Wayland. I use Nvidia-Hyprland Arch Linux and it does not seem to want to start for me and its seems a couple of others as well. I hope this gets patched and when it does I’ll definitely play it.

Franzia , in Three Weeks in Veloren 215

Went to look up Cubeworld again. Oh wow it released on Steam? First comment says don’t play it and play Veloren instead. Thanks OP, maybe I can finally stop having the Cubeworld brain worms.

warmaster , in Mesa Adds GPUVis Integration - GPU Trace Visualizer

I didn’t know this existed, I saw it was introduced at an X.org event… is it compatible with Wayland ?

just_another_person ,

XWayland should run it fine.

orangeboats ,

FYI, X.org (the organization) legally speaking is responsible for Wayland too.

Ticktok , in "You should migrate to Linux"

You will get there(although I haven’t heard great things about Fedora gaming). I made the switch November 2021 and I haven’t booted back into windows in about 9 months. I ended up picked EndeavourOS cause I wanted something Arch based to be as close to Steam Deck packages as possible(and I already prefer KDE Plasma, so picked that as well).

I still have my hiccups. I still can’t get SteamVR to work at all. I spent about 45 minutes yesterday troubleshooting why Outward stopped working, when all the protondb reviews say “it just works”. I did eventually get it working from a random suggestion from the arch forums to add PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command% to the steam launch commands and that fixed it. If I had to guess I think it’s something to do with my 1070Ti not playing nicely with the latest nvidia drivers. Also Epic made some sort of stupid update to FallGuys and I can no longer get it working for more one initial run per install. So that’s frustrating.

But I also love how much I know my system now. I love being able to update everything from one or two commands. I love pipewire for doing music recording stuff.(I fought for years on windows to try and cobble together something similar). I love having bash macros to easily download embedded videos and do quick ffmpeg conversions. Really, it definitely comes down to how I feel much more connected to this system than I ever did to a windows install.

just_another_person , in [Hardware question] Mini pc / compact desktop suggestions

I agree with those saying Steam Deck, but if you decide in a mini PC, you can easily get an AMD APU and still play AAA titles.

Interesting. I’ll download this later.

Everytime I ate a meal, I feel disgusted by every little and small scent.

Very bad idea. And overal I would kill the friend that brings this controller with him.

bouh , in Is anyone using Debian Sid for gaming?

I am on a laptop, and it works fine.

I’m using debian because it’s the distro I work with, so I’m the most comfortable with it.

utopianrevolt , in Is anyone using Debian Sid for gaming?

Probably not what you’re looking for but Nobara is great.

lal309 OP ,

That’s what I was running before switching away due to RH changes. Solid setup, would certainly recommend. It’s just a matter of principles for me but otherwise I’ve would’ve run Nobara until it died.

eleanor , in Is anyone using Debian Sid for gaming?

I’ve been using Trixie (Current testing, next stable) for gaming for a couple weeks. Everything (gaming wise) works the same as it did when I was on Arch.

lal309 OP ,

The only Trixie relate software I have was Wine staging as I couldn’t find “Sid” specific instructions. The documentation said unstable so I just assumed the Trixie instructions were also applicable to Sid.

I’m as new on Linux as one can get. Installed Nobara a week ago on my laptop. Steam Deck got me to wanna try Linux on my PCs. Claims to install a lot of what I would need in its package. Seems to work so far. Not based on Debian tho.

lal309 OP ,

I was running Nobara and had a rock solid setup. My problem was more related to the upstream changes by RedHat. Haven’t tried SteamOS

What are those? Just trying to dip my toes and understand small bits and taking it slow. Thanks in advance.

lal309 OP ,

Nobara is an rpm base distro so this link goes over the changes I’m referring to. Nothing wrong with Nobara, it’s just a matter of principles for me
