You didn’t get a free copy of a game, you got a free limited license to a game. Sounds like it won’ work outside the walled garden MS built.

It’s one of my only regrets from switching to linux full time last summer: the PC side of my GamePass Ultimate subscription is now useless because it requires Windows. I get it, but it still bums me out.

On the plus side, I prepaid using some crazy scam/exploit/deal/whatever from SlickDeals so it cost me like less than $100 for three years. And since I still use it on my Xbox regularly, I feel like it was still a… <glasses>… slick deal.

RayOfSunlight ,

Suscriptions are good for short-term users, but bad for long-term users.

Not to mention the games are not really yours.

And these days almost everything is Suscription based, and i hate it.

Stillhart ,

Yeah I get it. It turns out subscription services are everywhere and have been for quite some time so there’s no need to really inform people about the pros and cons at this point.

Sure I don’t own the games. But then again, I don’t tend to replay old games ever. There are SO MANY new games coming out all the time, I’ve never understood the urge to go back and replay an old game. Chances are there’s a new game out there that’s the same idea but better.

My only point here is that GamePass Ultimate is basically paying more to have access on Windows AND Xbox and I don’t use the Windows version anymore. It will save me money when it’s time to renew. Hooray linux!

RayOfSunlight ,

That’s because old games are focuaed on entertaining you instead of focusing on Graphics, pandering, scolding you, lecturing you and telling you to be ashamed of yourself for existing.

That’s why Gen Z is going for retro gaming.

Why don't you tell us what you really think?

RayOfSunlight ,

I think the videogames got heavier and more resource demanding than older games.

Not to mention the live service games, which honestly, i reject with all my soul.

hydroel ,

To be fair, except for GOG, none of the games bought on digital stores are ever really yours. See the recent debacle about The Crew.

RayOfSunlight ,

Yeah i hate that, since when those mf call the shots? Screw them, if buying is not owning, piracy is not stealing(never was to begin with).

I’m not sure why they did this but Prime Gaming is offering codes for Fallout 76 on PC and XBOX. I have no idea why they aren’t offering it free via Prime Gaming but my guess is since MS owns Bethesda, they let Prime offer the code to drive traffic to their own store.

I just claimed a free copy of Fallout 76 on PC from Prime Gaming and the MS store is telling me I need the XBOX app

Why is the MS store telling you anything at all? Did you redeem a prime gaming code for the MS store?

If the game is on Amazon, use Heroic Games Launcher.

I don’t think you can, some games in the MS Store have the Microsoft DRM, some games are UWP and not .exe and in the case of Fallout 76 I think they will use the Xbox service to run the multiplayer/coop. You could try to install via VM or install the MS Store app via Bottles(I don’t know if it works).

If there was a way I’d love to find out so I can use my Steam Deck. I’ve googled around and haven’t found anything other then info on how to stream games if you have a game pass.

Chewt ,

you could try to install it with wine? Thats the first place I would start researching
