Hi all. I’m hoping to get some help from folks with more Linux experience than me. I’m not a Linux noob, but I’m far from an expert, and I have some huge gaps in my knowledge....

Hi all. I’m hoping to get some help from folks with more Linux experience than me. I’m not a Linux noob, but I’m far from an expert, and I have some huge gaps in my knowledge....
Since Red Hat made their recent decision, there has been a lot more talk about people wanting to focus on communiy-based distros instead of corporate-backed distros....
I’m new to lemmy and linux, been daily driving Ubuntu 23 for 2 months and had nothing wrong happen, when I went distro hopping, witch I won’t ever do again, everytime I tried to mount a steam apps folder it wouldn’t show my apps, idk if this is a bug but I’ve gotten it fixed by creating a steam folder then copying all my...
I really like the look of that app, but adding online sources doesnt work....
I’m a pretty new Linux user, started using a basic Mint installation on the old desktop I use as part of my stereo/tv setup. All in all couldnt be happier with how easy and flexible it’s been, but one little thing is bugging the crap out of me and I haven’t a clue how to fix....
Hello Linux people, I need a bit of help. I wanted to leverage the new 545 NVIDIA drivers, but no other OS that I know of has them yet, so I installed Arch Linux using the handy archinstall script. I followed an external guide on how to get NVIDIA cards up and running. This one specifically:...
Are there any CLI tools like zoxide that allow to quickly find recently opened files by fuzzy search instead of directories?
My laptop seems very finicky with linux and enjoys periodically freezing. Some distributions are more stable than others and I’d like to keep testing other distributions without reinstalling/ downloading/transferring all my apps and steam games constantly....
My system keeps booting into the live image of Pop!_OS 22.04 rather than my encrypted partition. I ran boot-repair-disk but the system keeps going to the install image. I verified that the bios is pointing to the correct disk at boot and I verified that my data is still in the encrypted partition....
I am rocking an Xiaomi Gaming Laptop (i7 9th, GeForce 2060, 32Gb Ram) with PopOS installed since day one. It is working fine (a bit annoyed because there is no way of finding a new battery for replacement), but I was thinking of switching to something more open source and with Linux officially supported....
I have stopped using Office programs, mostly because I don’t want to deal with setting up Wine. I am making a birthday card for someone, but I noticed that LibreOffice Draw doesn’t have the Borders and Accents menu like Publisher does. Is there something that can replace it (website/extension/menu)? I’m looking for...
Hi everybody, I recently reinstalled ubuntu 23.04 on my laptop. I had a backup of my old home and copied that into my new home after installation, installed updates and rebooted. Sadly, I forgot to make myself the owner of those files before rebooting. Instead of the login screen where you would normally enter your password, It...
I’m using a PaperWM which is a scrolling window manager extension for Gnome, and I love it! But it’s an extensive extension which means it is sometimes brittle. I’ve thought it would be nice to find a window manager that is natively designed with a workflow that I like. There don’t seem to be any actively-maintained...
I’ve been playing with the largest models I can get running and have been using Librewolf or Firefox, but these use several gigabytes of system memory. What options exist that have less overhead? I’m mostly looking at maximizing the model training potential as I’m learning. The obvious solution is python in a terminal, but...
Hi all,...
I am looking to ditch some PoE Ubiquiti hardware in favor of a DIY approach with 802.11ax cards. What card would you recommend for long-range 802.11ax? Are there gotchas when hosting with hostapd with some cards, like binary blob drivers, incomplete support, etc. that I should know about? Is there any reason I should avoid doing...
I am currently running EndeavourOS on my laptop, and I have all of the “printer” packages from installation installed. My company uses a Papercut NG server to manage printing, and I have an account in the system. However, there are no clear guides for installing the Papercut client on Linux, or printing to a managed printer...
Curious about them and when around they may come to us
Otherwise I have to write one myself. In which case anybody have a good guide on writing Linux kernel drivers in rust? Maybe specifically catered towards controllers...
Just wanted to share:...
I’m on arch currently (with an RX 7600 and R5 3600) and its a good experience, but I find myself wanting many of the .deb packages available on Debian, and trawling the AUR makes me nervous...
I’m specifically looking for something that can both add text and works well with a stylus + tablet (specifically a surface pro). The best I’ve been able to find is Okular, but it’s been very finicky for me, especially while editing text. Is there anything better, or does what I’m looking for just not exist yet?
I cant be the only person who wants all of my terminal applications to use same color scheme. It frustrates me that almost all terminal apps seem to set their colors with no respect to the 16 I chose for my terminal palette. I understand that more than 16 colors are sometimes useful, but additional colors could easily be...
I’ve been using Wayland (Hyprland) for a couple days now and I notice there’s no support for Nvidia settings. Nvidia X Server Settings will open without the possibility of making any changes....
I’m developing an app with Flutter in VS Code installed with Flatpak. I’m trying to debug the app with Brave, which is also installed with Flatpak. As the apps are sandboxed due to Flatpak they don’t see each other....
