Is there a way to apply a apply an opengl shader to the entire screen in either gnome or kde using Wayland? I know hyprland has something like that, but I don’t use tiling WMs....
I apologize if this seems like a trivial matter, but I have a laptop (a Lenovo Ideapad 3 to be exact) and I can’t get WiFi (or Bluetooth) to work on anything other than Ubuntu 23.04 and its flavors. I tried OpenSUSE Leap and Debian 12, both couldn’t detect the built-in WiFi card. I also tried Ubuntu-based distros such as...
I’ve read a lot, but didn’t get a simple answer for 3 topics I’m interested about:...
I’m keeping it broad by not specifying a distro. I’m just curious is this a real option for actual editing professionals? As far as I understand you can make it work by running under Wine, but I’m guessing this comes with significant drawbacks. I’m having trouble finding any information on both the current state of...
I made a post a few days ago asking your opinion on Manjaro and it was very mixed, with a slightly negative overall opinion. I heard some recommend EndeavourOS instead and did some online research and it seems to be pretty solid and not have the repository problem that Manjaro has....
I used linux in the past, both privately and work-related, but the last time was over 10 years ago, so I’m a bit out of touch. I am in need of a new PC, but it’ll be a good year before I have the funds, so for now I am making due with an i5 7500 and a gtx 1660. I do have 32 GB so there’s that. I finally feel confident...
As a long-term Linux user, I tried running Ubuntu under the Windows Subsystem for Linux. I works!...
I have an issue with some servers at work where I have been unable to determine the best course of action to address it based on pre-existing knowledge within my team or web searches. Does anyone have suggestions for the best place to ask RHEL-specific questions? I don’t want to presume that it’s OK to post such nitty-gritty...
So two questions regarding some boot issues I've encountered on my dual-boot linux setup:...
So, recently, I bought an nvme ssd to replace the very old ssd I have on my laptop. I don’t know what the non-nvme is called. It shows as “sda” on the system. Anyway, doubled the storage. The new drive is an nvme WD black SN770. I have the same one running just fine on an optiplex dell mini running endeavourOS. Zero...
Is there some software I could use in gnome to emulate emacs prefix keys?...
Note: I don’t know if I’m posting this in the right community, I joined Lemmy recently....
Hello, I’ve been using manjaro xfce for a few months now and I’m starting to wonder if I would enjoy any other distros more, I’m not really a technical person but I really do enjoy linux so i’m willing to learn new things....
Hello, everybody. I’ve been looking for a new storage solution. I know, that HDDs are reliable and SSDs are for fast access, but I’ve been an HDD user ever since. I have an SSD, but I only have the OS on it. Likewise, I want to do some basic File operations, as writing documents or copy files. It would also be great if I...
Always heard about org mode but was intimidated by emacs when I could barely manage vi/vim (sorry guys). Installed a plugin for org-mode for Sublime Text today and… shit, why didn’t I try this sooner?...
I am a Linux noobie and have only used Mint for around six months now. While I have definitely learned a lot, I don’t have the time to always be doing crazy power user stuff and just want something that works out of the box. While I love Mint, I want to try out other decently easy to use distros as well, specifically not based...
I have been using CentOS for years as a somewhat stable go-to for a long time, especially in business environments....
Curious about them and when around they may come to us
I saw from a post that you can basically host your own mini windows inside of linux to play games with, and you can choose what to share with that little windows so microsoft can’t track you in any way. Does anyone have a tutorual/guide for that? Also what Distro would be best for it?
I have heard that for a long time, but lately since the Red Hat and RHEL thing happened I have heard it more....
I want to learn Linux and I read that installing Arch Linux is a great way to do this. But all guides I’ve found so far only guide you through the steps without much explanation of what it is you are doing during the installation....
I’m working on a hobby project of mine which requires Gnu Make 4.4. I am now trying to setup the project’s Travis pipeline on github. Travis, understandably, only offers LTS Ubuntu images and sadly Gnu Make 4.4 is not available on those images....
When I try to enable my (correctly configured) VPN it just does nothing, not even an error. Opvpn via the Terminal doesnt work seither even though it worked yesterday
I have been working on my scripts for user/group permissions today. This idea has been on my back burner for awhile. I’m sure others have done this before. I just haven’t encountered them yet....
