I want to launch Oobabooga Textgen WebUI from the command line with its serial output. I also want to run a while loop that retrieves the Nvidia GPU memory available and temperature for display on the header bar with a 5 second sleep delay. How do I run both of those at the same time?
By far, the feature I most sorely miss in Linux compared to macOS is Quick Look. Press the space bar, see file contents. Use the arrow keys, view different files. Simple, quick, and WAY faster than opening an entire app every single time I want to check the contents of a file. I also miss the column view in conjunction with...

Each time I try AMD graphics, something is fucked for me. Back with fglrx, fglrx just sucked, so I used Nvidia. Then I had an AMD right around when they finally had opensource drivers, but it was still buggy as hell. So I went with Nvidia again (first a GTX 790, then a GTX 1060). In the meantime I had a new work notebook where I...

Hi there, I’m new to Nix - but i’m not sure if this is a Nix or a KDE specific issue or not. So basically I just opened my laptop this morning, and whilst typing in my password, the audio from the movie I was watching (via Jellyfin) started to play before I had actually logged in. I assume this is the system getting things...

I’m looking for a disk drive that works with linux, connects via USB-A, and is compatible with CDs and DVDs (blu-ray would be good but it isn’t necessary). Does anybody have any recomendations?
I didn’t get to spend as much time tinkering and learning this week, but I still learned some new things!...
After nuking my old install, I am in need of a hostname. Top comment chooses it.
I wouldn’t really call myself a distro hopper, but in the last few months I’ve had to do some fresh installs on a couple of machines and VMs for work...
What do package managers do? Install packages, obviously! But that is not everything. In my opinion, package managers do enough to be characterized as general automation frameworks. For example:...

I know about Clonezilla and copy pasting partitions with gparted, but can I just use dd to copy a partition with batocera to a USB stick and will it then boot from the stick? Do I have to set the boot flag or take any other steps?...
I’m running stock Linux Mint and when I try to set 16:9 aspect ratio on my 32:9 monitor it stretches the resolution on whole monitor. On Windows it works by putting the screen in the middle of the monitor. I was wondering if something like that is possible on Mint.
Edit with solution: I’m dumb. Just use the default quickemu settings and only change "-device virtio-gpu-gl " to "-device virtio-gpu " and "-display sdl,gl=on " to "-display sdl,gl=off ". Although qemu will have a lot of overhead at boot, the CPU usage when on the desktop should not eat your linux host’s entire core. I also...

last year when I went back to Arch from Manjaro, I made a critical error. I’m not sure if I was just tired when partitioning things off or what. but I made my root only 20GB instead of the 50 that I had intended. I know in a lot use cases that’ll be fine, but in mine, not so much. with steam compat taking up 1-2gb and...
